Come in the evening
Dec 2017 • Couples
There are really two or three enormous squares to see in downtown Dongguan, by the library, by the theater, and across the street where the iconic sculpture stands. Even on a summer evening much of the squares' space is empty but there are parts filled with activity once your eyes adjust to the darkness. Couples practice ballroom dancing with the help of an instructor calling out the steps. Others dance to Chinese music or even EDM. On our last visit, we saw a small group trying out some hiphop steps. Other people practice tai chi or just ride bikes or skateboards. It's fun to see all the activity, especially if that's a part of everyday Chinese life that you haven't yet seen.

An inetresting place to stroll around if your are in the area.

The architecture of the buildings is impressive, and there are some interesting statues along one side of the square. It would probably be best to go there in the early evening, at this time the lighting makes the buildings look better. It is probably not really worth a special trip to see the squsre. However, if you are in the area it worth a visit.

Nice place to visit at night as the lights give it more calm than you see in the day with all the busy traffic

Shouldn't take up much time.

Just a small square worth walking through to see some architecture and the locals rollerblading or also going for a stroll. I wouldn't go out of your way to schedule a visit, but it is fairly central so if you're in the area, a small detour will suffice.

Why is this even an attraction?
Jan 2017 • Couples
This is just a giant statue. There isn't a lot to see. It's definitely a symbol of Dongguan, but don't make a special trip or anything. You might consider hanging around later in the evening to watch the older ladies exercise. Every once in a while special events will be held in the square but unless you speak Chinese there isn't much of a point. Feel free to visit at anytime day or night as it is very safe and well-lit, but there really isn't much to see. It's basically a giant square with the red statue. For holidays a display will be put up which makes a nice photo backdrop, but that's about it.

Worth a brief visit.

Considering I used to live in DG and walked past this each and every day. It did become part of the background. During the day a brief walkthrough, but when the sun goes down it comes alive with activity. Families stroll through here play, and roller blade and generally have a good time.

A brief daytime visit
Jun 2016 • Solo
will suffice. An evening stroll requires a bit longer. Whilst there is modern Chinese style architecture to view, there are far better places in DG to see and genuinely be inspired.
