When my husband and myself were in Xiamen in mid-October, we decided to have a look at this famous Taiwan snack street.

The stalls did sell all kinds of snacks alright, such as peanut soup, xiamen spring rolls, sha cha mian, sandworm jelly, gulangyu fish balls, fried oysters omelet, mian xian hu and Chinese chives bun etc.

Some stalls also sold satay skews: beef, pork and mutton.

We looked at one of the stalls' display and ended up not going inside, as it looked kind of dirty. My husband was afraid that we would end up with the runs after we ate the foods.

Taiwan snack street is filled with stalls after stalls of tawiwan food. From XL chicken chop, Oyster omelette, stinky tofu, BBQ meat, etc, you will be spoiled for choice. Some of the yummy food that we really love are the cheap fresh seafood, grass jelly dessert, as well as the da chang bao xiao chang. We simply love this street. Go hungry, walk along the street once, forget about all the diet, & whack the food from various stalls.

The choices here are great. Our favourites were the grilled lobsters, giant conch soup, baked cheesy clams, green tea shaved ice, and ice cream rolled in egg pancake.

Turn up hungry, and allow yourself a couple of hours to graze allong the street. Highly recommended !!

To get there ask a taxi to go to Taiwan Xiao Chi JIe (台湾小吃街) or get the bus to Lundu Port. If you are in the SiMing area then it is a short walk from Zhongshan walking street, close to the Home Inn hotel, across the road from the port.
This is the place to go for snacks. It gets packed of an evening and expect to sit and eat your food with everyone bustling past you. Prices seem to average at 10 Rmb for most snacks and expect to pay up to 25 for a steak or egg wrapped rice. This place also has the biggest choice when it comes to fruit drinks, the stalls here offer more variations of fruit than anywhere else.
Anyone looking for an interesting evening snack or a choice of cheap eats should head to Taiwan Food Street.

This place is perfect if you feel a bit adventurous about food. It's a short street with tons of seafood stalls. I saw some pretty amazing animals on display there, especially huge lobsters.
It seems to be constantly crowded and the vibe is really nice in the evening with all the lights and bustle.
I tried some snacks which were pretty tasty. Although we were with local friends who could tell which places are fresher and safer. If don't have that luxury just pick the busiest stalls and try their food.

Visited this place in the evening with my family. The seafood is reasonable and the people were friendly. Will come back and savour other food.

Go hungry!!!
Forget about your diet!

Lots of seafood - fried, baked or BBQ. The more busy the street, the fresher the food.

They have the usual Taiwanese favorites, ice shavings with topping, BBQ squid, fried shrimp, stinky tofu, oysters fried or baked.

Inside the stalls are some seating areas but most are carry and dash type of food.

We visited during a rainy day and it was not as busy. The food was not as fresh as we hoped.

After strolling the Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, I decided to visit this street, as it was nearby, just opposite the ferry terminal. The entire street was short, with both sides lined with street vendors, most of them were selling the same stuff - Taiwanese snacks, tea leaves etc. There were also many seafood restaurants too. I took less than 15 mins to walk this street. Not worth a special trip, but ok if you are already nearby.

The snack street is near Zhongshan road, which has more variety and is slightly longer than the taiwan food street in Zhongshan road. For omelette, be sure to try the one in the photo. There is a nearby market that sells packed snacks for gifts, which are cheaper than the ones at Zhongshan and supermarkets.
