Bring a lunch

Nice park. Great to get above the city, great views interesting temples. Saw lots of families at many of the tables up here enjoying meals they brought. If I come back I'm packing a lunch!

Quiet park for a relaxing walk
Aug 2016 • Couples
This park/mountain has many quiet, shaded trails, on which you can spend several hours wandering around. Trails are of the Chinese variety (in other words, stone steps) instead of rough dirt. Despite being surrounded by busy roads, it's generally quite serene and relaxing. I went in the middle of the week, and it wasn't crowded. On some trails, I didn't see anyone else. The park is also relatively clean with very little rubbish strewn about. Also, there are several pretty temples that are worth a look.

Drinks/snacks sold by hawkers in the park are a bit expensive, so bring your own. If you know (or can find) the big shopping mall SM, then you can easily find the park. Just go to the west side of the street, then follow along north until you see the park entrance, where a couple incense sellers are waiting. The tall nine-tiered pagoda is a great landmark to find and follow. There are bus stops (and taxis) on the other sides of the mountain, so there's no need to retrace your steps back the the entrance near SM. Entrance to the park is free.

Lovely walking in the city
Jan 2015 • Solo
Xianyue park (and associated mountain trails) is a lovely natural space towards the north of Xiamen island. There are numerous trails of between 2 and 10 kms giving beautiful views of the city. You can also study birds as the birdlife was plentiful when I visited. The trails are clearly signposted and maps provide you rough idea as to which direction to go. There is not any english on the maps, so it is helpful if you know your north, east, south and west :)
It is a little tricky to find the entrance - Hubin Zhong lu when it comes to the large overpass, turn left after crossing the road near the carpark and then the next big right and the park entrance is a tiny sign up a large flight of stairs
