There are so much to see in this area that one can spend a few hours easily. Other than all the schools and universities, there is also the Former Residence of Mr. Chen Jiageng, the Guilai Park, and the Jiageng Park near the beach. All at walking distance. Much to learn about the history and importance of Mr. Chen's contribution to this area.

From what I understand is that this area was developed several decades ago to promote education in Xiamen. Several schools are located here, and each of the buildings are beautifully constructed - having a western-style façade with a Chinese roof.
The day I went a number of postgrads were waiting for their exam, and everyone was seated outside in the lawns, in their cars, under the tress, and by the lakeshore cramming up to the last minute. The atmosphere itself makes you want to study and excel.

This is a very picturesque group of buildings along the shore in Jimei on the mainland. Closest metro is Jimei University town and you can walk through the streets or along the waterfront park. If you have the time go further east to Turtle village, a touristy spot with a small beach area.
