A nice garden but lack of management
Jul 2016 • Family
The garden was nice but it's lacking of management. Most of the construction are under poor maintenance and no seems very bad to visiter. The landscape and water are very beautiful and I don't recommend it if you don't have enought time in Xiamen.

Huge and Beautiful Park
Jul 2015 • Friends
I went there by bus, then I was having trouble going back. The place is HUGE and beautiful. A lot of old Chinese architecture as well as modern architecture. This place is often used for movie scenes. A lot of couple make their pre-wedding pictures there. At night it's free to get in (hints: a lot of couple are going there to "take a walk")
During spring they have Butterfly garden, with very tame butterflies, nice place to make cute pictures of you surrounded by butterflies. I love this place. Quite costly, but 50% off with student card.

Large garden with few tourists and many pavillions
Apr 2015 • Couples
This gardens are set on three different islands and cover a large area. Don't underestimate the time it takes to walk around! I leisurely walked around for almost four hours and still only saw half of the garden. The area is further divided into different sections such as International Gardens, Gardens of Chinese Provinces and Cities, and Gardens of Chinese Universities. There are numerous tiny pavilions in each section, too.

I went in mid-April and saw a lot less flowers than I expected, so maybe it's better to go in late March. A few sections were also closed. To be honest, the pavilions were rather underwhelming and only superficially represented a particular place. However, the best thing about these gardens is that there are very few tourists, at least on a Friday in April. It's quite peaceful! You can take a stroll and you won't be bothered by food/souvenir vendors, tour groups, or other annoyances.

There were park buses that drove around the park. I didn't ride in them, but I suspect it should be cheap. Additionally, there were tandem bikes and even four-person four-wheel bikes (quadcycles?) that you can rent and ride around the park

As for food, there are just a couple snack shops selling overpriced instant noodles and drinks. On the map, there seems to be a restaurant in the eastern part of the park, but I didn't go there so it may or may not actually exist. It would be best to bring plenty of water and some snacks. You could even bring a picnic if you wanted to.

The ticket price is 60 yuan/person. Student discount is 30 yuan. Ticket booth hours are 7:30 - 19:00 (18:00 in winter) and park hours are 7:30 - 22:00. It may seem strange to go to a garden at night, but the pagoda is apparently lit up when it's dark. The map location on this page is incorrect; it's actually the same as this: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g297407-d2051454-Reviews-Garden_Expo_on_Water-Xiamen_Fujian.html#MAPVIEW

You need at least a day here
May 2012 • Business
This place combines different styles of old time chinese living. The place is huge and you need to spend at least a day here if you want to cover all the attractions.
It is located at the outskirts of the city and not too accessible. Getting there from the City is easy(around 45 mins drive) as you can get a cab from the city, but coming back will be harder as there is fewer cabs there.
