Beautiful city and water views from this Xiamen coastal road. There are many things to see and do along the route, including jogging and cycling tracks (bike rentals available), museums to visit, enjoy some of the architecture, dine at one of the many restaurants, enjoy drinks at the cafes, and more.

I havce ridden a bicycle from one end of the trail to the other. At a good speed I was able to get from one end to the other in about 1.5 hours. I passed several beautiful beaches where you can stop and swim or just listen to the waves and enjoy the atmosphere. For the active people seeking adventure you can even take kite boarding lessons, or just relax and capture the beautiful images on your camera. The ride will take you pas the new International Marina, Exhibition Center, Arts Center, Xiamen University as well as the beautiful beaches along the shared pedestrian and bicycle pathway. It is one of the best Harbour front Trails and Roads I have experienced and there are always signs of development and improvement.

We were taken on a drive on this very nice stretch of road that had scenic views of the ocean. We periodically pulled over into various parking lots to get out and walk along the paths or beaches.

The city did a very nice job of making this an attractive place to get out and bike, walk or run along separate paths away from traffic and nicely maintained landscaping. Beaches were clean and, at this time of the year, not too many people out and about.

We turned around next to the huge One Country, Two Systems sign that supposedly is visible to Taiwan.

Huandao Road is the ring road that runs from Xiamen University up the coastline to Wuyuan Bay and beyond.

Starting from Xiamen Uni, you'll pass Baicheng Beach (heavily touristed, water quality not great), Hulishan Cannon Fort (one cannon, not much else, although it is fired daily at 16.15). Next is Daring Duck - the place to sail, kayak, paddleboard, meet and make new friends, have a drink or something to eat, or play volleyball. There are often dinners, fairs and live music. Marc and Paul (both Dutch) are doing a good job there.

Your next stop is Zengcuoan - a fishing village that has become a popular tourist destination. It's chocablock full of guesthouses, restaurants, bars and curio shops. Expect a lot of people! The beach opposite is reasonable, but also heavily touristed.

Carrying on you'll pass the Tatou village and the abandoned Taiwan Folk Village (great for urban adventurers). From here onwards for the next few kiolmetres are the best beaches with the cleanest water. Kitesurfing also happens in the windy season. There are two kitesurfing clubs, with instructors and equipment.
Next up is Guanyinshan Beach (massive) and the water park. I've never been to the park, but from the outside it looks to have some impressive rides.

Keep on walking/jogging/cycling/driving and you'll pass the lighthouse (and surrounding park), Wutong Port (ferries depart daily to Kinmen).

FInally there is Wuyuan Bay and Yacht Club - nice to stroll around and take in the sights.

All in all there are plenty of things to do and see on Huandao Road. I've spent many days exploring this road and its beaches and attractions.

This road is clean and beautifully landscaped, with all sorts of tropical trees, flowers, and bushes. We spent the majority of our trip visiting sites on or just off of this road. There are so many beaches along the way, plus you can get to Zeng Cuo An Village and Gulangyu Island by catching one of many buses that frequent this road.

I encourage you to find a hotel or a hostel on this road, because you will be on a direct line to so many good restaurants, beaches, and other attractions.

We went along the road twice, on foot and by bicycle, and are going to go again - just can't have enough of it. Walking is very comfortable - there's a footpath going for about 6 km, sometimes a boardwalk and sometimes a paved path, long stretches of it are narrow bridges coming off the shore so there's a feeling you're amidst sea waves. Just breathing the sea air and listening to the waves is extremely relaxing. The place is well maintained, very clean beaches with open access to the public all along the way, free and clean toilets every 500 meters, manicured lawns. A lot of interesting art works are merged into the nature scene: you'll see a calligraphy square, a music square and a stone square, in this order, on the way. All with interesting sculptures and nice touches. Further on is a unique sculpture composition of about 100 figures representing marathon runners (they have an international marathon held here every January). It's easy to go by bike, too - there's a cycle path and rental stations all along the way, a bike for a whole day will cost you 30-40 yuan.
