worth a quick stop

As admission to the Organ Museum and International Calligraphy & Carving Gallery were included in the combined ticket, I made brief stops to both. Organ Museum, like the piano museum had few dozen unique organs that would only interest organ enthusiasts. The exterior is an old mansion that is one of the more notable buildings on the island, so it’s still worth a look.

Many types of organs
Mar 2018 • Couples
I didn't realize that organs are popular in China so I was surprised to come across an organ museum in Gulangyu while visiting the island. There is a rather big collection of organs here, some from Europe. Quite interesting to add to my overall general knowledge.

There are quite a few Canadian Organs in the collection, it spans the entire main floor. Worth a visit if you're interested in musical instruments, the building is nice and the grounds are pretty.

World's largest organ museum
Dec 2017 • Solo
This is the world's largest organ museum, with a good collection of organs from all over the world. The largest organ stands at 6m high, really imposing and majestic in view. Even though I didn’t understand much about organ, it is worthwhile to drop by just to appreciate the various antique designs and history of these organs. Entrance fee is included for those who purchased the combo ticket (100 rmb). 15 to 20 mins is sufficient to briefly have a glimpse of them.

Good collections of Organ

For those who are always amazed with Wind Organs in the churches this is a must visit! They have a great collections of big and small, old and modern organ. The only setback is that the museum is located at the top of the hill on Gu Lang Yu island, a destination you want to go only if you like spending the whole day browsing though the other attractions on the island.

I had to go!

Our friend Vince is an organ enthusiast and had told me about it. So, when walking around Gulangya Island, I kept seeing the signs, and remembered Vince. It is a nice building, on a hill, with a large assortment of antique organs. If you're into organs, and on the island, it's worth the visit.

An organists dream

The Gulangu Organ Museum is a very interesting collection of a large number of harmoniums and American organs with a small number of pipe organs thrown in for good measure. The Norman & Beard organ in the central foyer is a magnificent piece of work that has been beautifully and fully restored to optimum playing condition. When we visited the organ was actually partly down for repair, so we could not hear it in the flesh. However I do have a recent recording of the organ and know it sounds magnificent.
There are a number of small fairground organs in the collection and they appear t be in playing order. Upstairs are parts of a huge Casavant organ from Boston (USA) that are gradually being repaired. I understand this organ will be installed in a separate building just down the road.
The organs are maintained by a respected Australian organ builder and it is expected that two other large pipe organs from Asutralia will soon be joining the Gulangyu collection.
There is no doubt that this is one of the finest collections of organs in the world and it is all presented in a magnificent building. It is certainly worth the trip to Xiamen just to see this remarkable collection.

Wonderful collection in old octagonal building reeking of times past with a lovely view over Xiamen bay. Would be better with more curatorial care. A must for piano and organ fans.

Very unique display of organs but poorly maintain for some strange reason
Oct 2011
We wanted to go to the Piano Museum but then accidentially found the organ museum so we went for a tour since we were there anyways.
Found the displays were very unique with large collections of organ from all over the world. There were 2 floors of organ displaying with the biggest organ at the entrance of the museum. However, we felt sad that all displays were not in temperature control room or at least we put inside an air-conditioned room. All displays were just sitting there in room temple and no casing to protect them from weather or unruly tourists.
It is really a shame to see it maintain this way.
That said, I still think it is worth your while to see it.
