This spectacular monument is an impressive mix of concrete with bronze statues depicting the early seafarers who discovered and lived here. The walkway alongside the sea leading up-to this monument offers some great views of the surroundings. Plenty of photo opportunities for any traveler in Punta Arenas.

Certainly a must see while in Punta Arenas. This is one of the more elaborate statutes I have ever witnessed. It is really beautiful and quite well appointed. The ocean front backdrop makes all the more special.

Walking along the seafront, nice part of Punta Arenas, among the many monuments we saw this one. It's a brone monuments depicting the ship surrounded by marmaids and males. We liked it , good pictures with the beautiful sea in the background in a sunny day.

Nice place to walk around and breathe the pure air (especially if you live in a polluted city). Plenty of space to walk. Large area with places to go down to the water. The monuments are just that: monuments.

We took a walk to see this monument in the afternoon. It was pretty dull looking. I have seen pictures at night with lights & water fountains. I would suggest only viewing this attraction at night with those special effects.

The boardwalk in Punta Arenas has artwork, animals and athletic equipment at the north end. I stopped here on my way in and out of town, and thought it was best at sunrise with little to no one else allowing you capture all the photos you want. On my way back into town, there were a few cruise ships in port and the place was a bit crazy.

On the other hand - let's find out what and who does represent this monument. It is homage to Ancud sailors. The schooner Ancud was the ship sent by Chile in 1843 to claim sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan. It was built for the purpose in the city of San Carlos de Ancud and today can be seen in Nao Victoria Museo.
For me this is enough to look at it with respect and take a photo.
Besides, there some scenic views of hundreds of cormorants in vicinity. Two good reasons to stop for a while.

We enjoyed our brief stroll along the waterfront where two things caught our attention. First was PUNTA ARENAS in large letters in a little plaza area with tables and chairs. It is a great spot for taking your picture in front of the letters. There was also the statue called Monumento A Tripulante Goleta Aucud. The statue is set in a pool, is the bow of a ship with crew members, goats, and a mermaid in front. It commemorates the ship Ancud and crew of 23 that were sent by Chile to claim sovereignty over the Straight of Magellan in 1843. Pleasant place to walk but could be very windy.
