Far South Expeditions, Inspiring Wildlife Adventures since 1997.

Entering our 18th year operating intimate and inspiring nature, photography, birding and cultural journeys in South America, Patagonia and Antarctica.

Based in Chile, we specialize since 1997 in offering world-class naturalist expeditions, planning and leading an assortment of programmes focused on natural history & geography, wildlife & landscape photography, birdwatching, culture & history, trekking & hiking and family adventures in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Patagonia & Antarctica.

For 2015/2016 we have prepared a diverse calendar of journeys combining the best our region offers to travellers whose interest lies mainly in the natural world and culture as a part of it. Our itineraries offer the best locations, dates, lodging and the leadership of the most experienced and knowledgeable local guides. Our trips visit such contrasting and beautiful locations, from the Atacama Desert, and the Altiplano in the Northern Andes, to the enigmatic Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific, and south to the impressive fjords, mountains and glaciers of Patagonia, Torres del Paine and Tierra del Fuego, and the forbidding beauty of Antarctica.

The highlight of our whole cruise around the Cape from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso was the half day excursion to see the incredible condors of Patagonia. The coach trip out wAs great for spotting wildlife, we saw Rheas, armadillo, llama things, Eagles and other birds and a Pudu deer. However the condors were most amazing. About 100 gather on the... We booked the one day King Penguin Tour over to Tierra del Fuego in February, we loved it. The best part was our guide Bastian, very personable and informative. We flew over from Punta Arenas to Porvenir in a small plane after he picked us up at our Hostal, only a half hour flight. So much better than the hours... More

Booking the Penguins of Magdalena Island took only a few keystrokes as the advertisement text describing a "naturalist" and orange boat to get us to the island was exactly what our party of 8 wanted. Our "naturalist" was pucntual and pleasant but unable to share information with us as his microphone was inoperable. We arrived at the dock to find... More

We chose the option to fly across the Strait because we read that the ferry is unpredictable and we had a tight schedule. It was much more expensive but worth every penny! Our guide (I'm ashamed to say we spent the whole day with him and didn't get his name) was a biologist and picked us up at our hotel.... More

We were collected by Sebastian and the FSE driver at our hotel in Punta Arenas on time and drove to the Tierra del Fuego. A last minute change in the ferry schedule meant we had to take a different route but Sebastian showed us some of the sights along the way so we could also learn some of the history... More

David was an excellent guide for our King Penguin Day Trip. As a whole, Far South is running a very efficient tour company. Even our escort to the airport for the flight to Tierra del Fuego arrived early, spoke exceptional English, and was very attentive. The tour started with a stop for tea and coffee and David's family restaurant/hotel. We... More

In late March we used FSE and they did not tell us which guide we would have for a private birding tour. We were very disappointed in guide "Sebastian Saiter". He undoubtedly knows his birds, but has ZERO guiding skills. Don't pay for a driver and guide and have them talking to each other (in Spanish, which I understand btw)... More

Dear Guest, I am very sorry to learn about your disappointment in relation with your experience with us in one of our day birding tours along the Straits of Magellan early this year. It's very hard for us and rest assured we will take measures in order to prevent things like this to happen in the future. Your reaction seems... More

We used Far South to do a day-tour from Punta Arenas to see the incredible King Penguin colony on Tierra del Fuego. Pros: - Seeing the penguins up close and in such remote and quiet (but windy) location was incredible; while we were there we only saw a couple of other tourists and spending 1.5 hours just watching the penguins... Half day visit from a cruise boat. Driven to north of Languna Blanca near the border with Argentina. Taken to base of a cliff the is the home to 100 puls breading condors. So guaranteed a sighting. Traveling with our family of 5 (kids aged 20, 17 and 9) we were limited to just 3 days in Patagonia. We had researched the area and what to do, and generally do everything ourselves.
