It is a beautiful place however the weather plays a big part especially for photograhs. On a blue sunny day [rare ] the scenery just jumps out at you. Not so good when cloudy though...the colors are more dead. Please note....the famous church in Parinacota village is closed and no viewing allowed due to the untimely death of the church... More

I recently returned to Parque Nacional Lauca after first visiting in the mid-1990's. Sadly, this mountain wilderness has lost much of its remote, unspoilt quality over the last 20 years. The tar road through the park now seems to be a significant import / export route for land-locked Bolivia. Large numbers of heavy vehicles use the road, queuing for several... More

We have seenn Manas Sarovar and explored numerous volcanic lakes and high desert places in the world. We drove a small car from Arica to Putre through Lauca park via every possible indegenous villages like Saxamar, Belem, etc. We saw 7 cars in 8 hours, 5 of which were construction vehicles and 2 were locals driving from one village to... Do not get me wrong, it is a espectacular place, but it takes you around 4 hours to get there. Your drive on the La Paz-Arica international highway full of trucks and for the next 2 years, this highway will be under construction to add a new lane. This makes the journey very slow. Once you get there, the lake... More

I was so happy that i went here. The national park is amazingly beautiful. We saw alpacas on the way as well. The location is quite high above sea level and a few of us got altitude sickness so be prepared for that. Wind is quite strong but worth it!

Take a guided tour with Sama Inti. Fred will pick you up at 7:30 and will take you to a journey of information about the desert, wild animals, plants, local and ancient cultures (you even will learn some Yamara words) and places of astonishing views ranging from total desert to the beautiful lake (Chungará). One of the highest lakes in... More
