We had an amazing time birding with Prek Toal Tours and Hoksan. As birders we were thrilled at the diversity of birds we saw and Hoksan's knowledge. Visiting and learning about his floating village was fascinating and eye opening. Not only is Hoksan a font of area birding knowledge he is a kind and gentle person who has dedicated his career to helping his village. I strongly recommend this experience.…

We had a wonderful day with prektoal tours - travelling by boat across Tonle Sap at sunrise, then birdwatching in the bird sanctuary where we saw many magnificent birds. Mr Hoksan and his team are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wildlife of this area. We felt very privileged to have lunch at the floating village and to experience this unique way of life. I would strongly recommend this tour.…

Prek Toal Tours and Travel - a local not-for-profit community group - picked us up at 5am from our Siem Reap hotel and transferred us by minibus to the nearest navigable point on the river system. We started seeing birds as soon as dawn broke at the boat launch point, and this continued as we transferred by larger boat to the fascinating floating village of Prek Toal for a breakfast and comfort break. The number and variety of birds increased as we moved on in a smaller boat through narrow channels into the wetland proper, and gradually made our way to one of the Park Rangers' viewing platforms up bamboo ladders at the top of a tree. Due to the outstanding spotting and ID skills of Hoksan, we saw four dozen species in one morning (including observing nesting birds from the Ranger platform). We highly recommend Hoksan's tour - firstly because of his local birding knowledge, secondly as the 3 other guides we encountered all deferred to his knowledge, and thirdly as your fees for the tour contribute directly to Prek Toal village projects (such as new home construction and flood repairs). The density and variety of birds was amazing - and in just one morning in mid Jan 2020 we saw the following 1. Asian Openbill 2. Asian Palm Swift 3. Barn Swallows 4. Black-capped Kingfisher 5. Black-headed Ibis 6. Black Bittern 7. Black-winged Stilt 8. Blue-tailed Bee-eater 9. Brown-headed Gull 10. Bronzed Drongo 11. Common Kingfisher 12. Common Myna 13. Comb Duck 14. Cinnamon Bittern 15. Darters 16. Glossy Ibis 17. Great cormorants 18. Great Egrets 19. Greater Adjutants 20. Greater Coucal 21. Grey Heron 22. Grey-headed Fish Eagle 23. Green-billed Malkoha 24. Indian Cormorants 25. Intermediate Egrets 26. Indian Roller 27. Javan Pond-Heron 28. Large-billed Crow 29. Lesser Adjutants 30. Plaintive Cuckoo female 31. Little Cormorants 32. Little Egrets 33. Little Heron 34. Milky Storks 35. Oriental Magpie Robin 36. Olive-backed Sunbird 37. Painted Storks 38. Purple Heron 39. Spot-billed Pelican 40. Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker 41. Stork-billed Kingfisher 42. Whiskered Terns 43. White-throated Kingfisher 44. White-vented Myna 45. White-breasted Waterhen 46. Woolly-necked Stork 47. Yellow Bittern as well as the more common birds such as bulbuls.…

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with Hoksan. His passion about his home - the wetland, the village and the lifestyle there, his neighbours and conservation added greatly to our experience. He is extremely knowledgeable about the birds in the Prek Toal area (not only the wetland ones) and equipped with sharp eyes. We saw and learned so much! And that the entire operation feeds into the community’s development means it’s much more than tourism. I would highly recommend this over any tour. It was a privilege.…
