One wonderful day in Kompong Khleang with the greatest guide Mr Nan and Mr Prohm the driver.
We had a great cooking class at Mrs Teav’s home, we had great moments with smiley children on our way to the boat. Mr Nan loves to show his countries’ wonders and take the time to answer to any questions you may ask. It was a real pleasure to spend the day with him.
Then, Kompong Khleang is a beautiful and typical Cambodian village, which isn’t touristic at all… it was such a great experience.
Thanks you, Nan and Prohm you are such a great team!

I did a floating village tour where we were taken on a small motorboat through one of the floating Villages (Mechrey). I had a great time, the guide was friendly, and we were the only ones touring then.We unfortunately were blocked by the high water level, but our tour guide skillfully manouvered us back to the base. I recommend this tour as a way to see how people live in floating villages and support the local economy. Thanks 🙏

Great activity! Our guide Nam (guide) has been incredible, he explained so many things about Camboya and its history. Nam is an excellent profesional, he looked after us really well and made us feel at home. Highly recommend :)

We requested visiting other attractions before the village. The tour quide, Sopheap, had very prompt reply via email and he was very patient in discussing the itinerary with us. We just needed to pay extra for the transportation fee. To my surprise, he did not only brought us to the temple, but he also introduced a lot of the Cambodian things, the history, the culture etc.. to us. That day we enjoyed a superb sunset in the middle of the Tonle Sap Lake. Sopheap had prepared clean linens and even fresh water for us! The host family did not speak English and we could hardly talk. But their action and smile spoke. On thr next day we went to the market and a primary school before attending a cooking class. It was great! Sopheap and the driver knew that we wanna buy a coffee pot and stamps and thus, on the way back to the city, they took us to a local market and the post office before sending us back to our hotel. It was so sweet. We did enjoyed the time we spent together!
But if you really cannot tolerate staying in a primitive village overnight, it would be better to opt for a day trip. Environment for bathing, grooming and sleeping, may not satisfies you due to the limited water and mosquitoes. But I do think they are acceptable. And these are part of the actual life of a local that you can have a taste of it.

My husband and I had the pleasure of taking this tour in October 2012.......What a fantastic day it was ......very scenic journey out to the village by Tuk Tuk with a short stop at a local market then on to the village for a scrumptious morning tea of croissants and banana bread (brought with us by our guide) then a real insight into village life in Cambodia, making flat rice, weaving baskets out of palm leaves and visiting a few different families, we were even lucky enough to visit the village school.........what a memorable day we had, a real highlight of our trip to beautiful Siem Reap.......cant recommend the company highly enough

Ok, so there is no denying it, it is an early start. If you want to see the sunrise, the pick up is about 5am - ahhh!!! But it is worth it. Most of us will only visit Angor Wat once.
So we went to see the sunrise, at a lake en route to the temples, which meant we missed all the tourists. It was such a beautiful and serene moment, we had loads of time to take pictures.
Then we had breakfast at a locals house which was great - mainly baked yams, banana bread fruit and other local delicacies. Very filling and wasn't disappointed. Next stop the jungle temple (where Tomb Raider was filmed) and then on to Angor Wat. Stunning.
My father in law was ill in the day and we had to change our plans pretty quickly. Also, my fiancée broke her sandals - this resulted in Samnang going all over the place to try and resolve our problems. He left my fiancée on a bench for 10mins while he and Sopheap went off to shop for flip flops - what a godsend!
I cannot praise them enough. Friendly, kind, yet professional. Samnang is also an amazing photographer- let him take your pics, you'll have some great shots when you get home!
I would definitely recommend!

When searching for Buffalo Trails I could not find many reviews about the company, however I am glad this did not put us of. We booked two tours with buffalo trails online before arriving in Siem Reap. The company were quick to respond and very helpful in answering all my questions. The first tour we went on was the Kompong Kleang full day village tour - in a word...sensational. We were a groups of three adults and three children aged 8,5 and 4. Wandering around the stilt villages was amazing, the locals were so genuinely friendly and interested. Our guide was knowledgable, and friendly and always happy to oblige us with yet another photo stop/ wander around (We had a professional photographer with us so there were ALOT of requests to stop!) It was wonderful to help prepare a meal in a local ladies house. The hammocks were instant entertainment for the children. The house was simple in design, with real character and beauty to it, immaculately clean. The food was fresh and delicious and there was LOTS of it! I felt very privelledged to go first on the lake to see all the activity going on and not once did it feel touristy. Even better was when we moved into a smaller boats, were handed parasols and had ladies paddle us around the vietnamese floating village. Awesome. On the way back we came across a parade unexpectedly, with a whole village celebrating. They all stopped and waved and talked. It was wonderful to have such an authentic experience. We all loved it.
I was actually a bit worried about the second tour we booked as I thought it might cover some of the same ground we had on the stilt village tour and also couldn't imagine it could possibly be as good as the first tour. However the buffalo cart ride was just as wonderful and completely different. We felt like gypsies in our carts, ambling down dirt roads past farmers still farming the ways they have for hundreds of years. We were welcomed with smiles and waves everywhere we went. We helped harvest rice, visited peoples houses, had a go at some palm frond crafts, made rice porridge, drank from coconuts etc but it was done in such a way that did not feel like you were a tourist, more a friend who had dropped by. Our children loved the interaction with the children they met along the way (although both sides could be a little shy!) Highly , highly recommended.

4 days tour was splitted in two parts: 2 days for Angkor Wat site and two days in countryside and lake homestay overnight.
Guide Yukho speaks good english and her knowledge of historical sites is very valuable. She likes chat as well! But it was not a standard tour since it included breakfast and lunch at local homestays around Angkor War villages, providing economic support to locals.
The 2 days in countryside was even more authentical because you can touch local life around floating villages and lake. Nan english is less strong than Yukho but you can get it. Overnight at homestay was really good experinece: you can chat with the family, visit pagodas and schools there. We received a blessing from senior monk ad well.
I really recommend Buffalo trails if you like to taste a local experinece.
