I just did one in Hoi An. For $38 we received a welcome dink, then a boat ride to a beautiful setting, another welcome drink, a garden tour,a market tour, a cooking class and lunch followed by a boat ride back. This place in Cambodia was $27.50, 3 courses and not very difficult or interesting. The chef retreated to his office when we ate. we only did this one as it was close to our hotel and we were tired of temples. Not worth it.

Hello, thanks for coming to our restaurant during your stay in Siem Reap.
I am sorry that our service didn't live up to your expectations. Our chef is
often praised for their hard work and efficient service. But I will follow up
with our staff to determine how we fell short in this instance.
Normally, we get many reviews which express how interesting our teaching courses are, but I apologize that you didn’t enjoy the course.
Have fun with the remainder of your stay in Siem Reap.
Kind Regards from all Champey Cooking Class team!

Me and my boyfriend did a cooking class here, we made spring rolls, amok fish and fired banana. At first we visited the local marked to understand the food that we were making, they had already done the shopping earlier to ensure we got fresh food! We had the cook who called herself "seven" and she were so great at explaining everything both in the market and at cooking class. At the end we got to sit down and have our home made food and besides that we got a cooking book, spices and a diploma! :D visit this place! it was one of the greatest experiences we had i Siem Reap!

We were fortunate to get the place to ourselves that morning which enhanced the VIP experience.
Anyway, we were met by the lovely folks who were super friendly. The Chef Instructor was knowledgeable and patient. I liked the fact that he gave a good solid critique after our feeble attempts didn't quite match his demonstration.
We made a three course menu consisting of paper rice rolls, the ubiquitous local dish - Fish Amok and an great banana in caramel coconut sauce.
The visit was placed in context with a visit to the local fresh market so you could see the ingredients you would be working with. This was just for context - the team back at the kitchens had already prepped everything.
While they included a tasty welcome mango drink, i wished they would have offered water or other beverages in the total price rather than charge on top. For that I dock a star on an otherwise marvellous experience.
I would do it again.

After being all "templed out" and having had enjoy all this lovely Khmer food in my couple days in Cambodia, I decided to venture out the realms of the temples and try a cooking class and I'm glad I did! The tour was booked by my hotel, who really did a great job organizing the transport, etc. I had a Tuk Tuk take me to the restaurant where we went on a guided tour first.
In the description of the itinerary, it made it seem like you were going to go to the market to get food - but it was actually just a tour of what we will be using to cook. It was interesting venturing into the markets - all the crazy smells and spices - I loved it!
You then got taken back to another building, which was the "cooking classroom" - about a 5 minute walk from the market. There, we started to prepare ingredients and made a 3 course meal.
Some tips & tricks:
1. Don't eat before!
As someone else here already mentioned, you get a whole lot of food. I should have read in detail the reviews before I got there because I had eaten breakfast the day of, and could hardly finish my meal.
2. Not exactly a "kid friendly" activity.
Please note that you are prepping ALL the ingredients - meaning you are peeling some carrots, cutting mint leaves, etc. As such, you are using an extremely sharp knife a lot of times. Unless the child has some mad cutting skills, I would be so scared to let any child around such a sharp knife.
3. Bring bug spray!
Bring bug spray if you are sensitive to mosquitoes and put it on prior. While cooking, it must have been the sugars from the banana or coconut, etc, I got bitten several times but it was my own fault for not spraying myself before. Like a lot of places in Cambodia, it is an open concept, which gives the place a natural beauty but also gives an opportunity for those stinging buggers to enter!
4. Bring a bit of money for drinks with your meal
You do have to purchase even water, I believe. So bring a bit of money for some sparkling water, beer, etc.
In terms of value, it was $25/person when I went - which is spectacular compared to many countries, if you wanted to do such cooking classes. At the end, you get a beautiful small array of a sampler of a variety of spices each kept in wicker straw containers, a certificate, a DVD, and a book that has all the recipes you made (as well as lunch/dinner - whichever one you did not attend).
Overall, our chef was shy but friendly and it was lovely having him teach our class. His assistant was equally lovely as well.
I would highly recommend this class for anyone staying beyond the initial two days in Cambodia to see the temples and want a more unique experience!

We were lucky enough to have a group of touring Japanese people with us at the class. Lots of laughs, good food, clear guidance to help us with the dishes and then a good cookbook and spices to go away with. Included a tour of market

I attended a cooking class recently and had a great morning. It was good to be shown around the market before moving on to the cooking school. We made 3 tasty dishes that were quick and easy.
It was a very relaxed atmosphere and my only negative feedback would be that they could perhaps have been a little more organised as there was a lot of waiting around for preparation of ingredients by the support staff. We were given a lovely little gift of spices and a recipe book which was a great souvenir.
Overall it was a very enjoyable way to spend a morning in Siem Reap and I would recommend it.

My boyfriend and I loved our cooking class which was operated by a restaurant chef in a cottage- style building. The food we cooked were common cambodia cuisine which was great! Fresh spring rolls, amok curry and banana passion fruit coconut fritters. The drinks were optional and reasonably priced. It was only my partner and I for the lunch class which made it very easy to follow the chef and learn a lot. One negative comment would be that the chef did seem disinterested by the class. Not passionate about teaching or cooking. He is a qualified chef in the local restaurant and we didn't let it affect our experience. It was easy for both of us and fun! Also located in heart of old market Siem reap

We started with a quick visit at the market with explanations of vegetables, fruits, spices. Then we were headed to the kitchen to start our classes. We received mango juices and had to prepare a full meal (starter - main course - desert). It was fast and really cool, plus we were only 2 with the chef so we could ask all the questions we wanted. It is also well affordable for one afternoon cooking + possibility to eat what you've cooked afterwards.

This class definitely did not disappoint- thoughtfully organized. The class starts with a intro visit to the local market, then you get to prepare and eat a 3 course meal. Everyone gets their own cooking station and gear. The dishes were tasty and they would have accommodated special diets as well if needed. The complimentary cook book and spice set were a nice touch. Chef was professional and thorough in his explanation.

Coming for cooking class with afternoon. Is it possible to do two dishes with chicken instead of fish for the main dish? Sent an email request just now.
Written July 2, 2017
They had no problem accommodating the non-fish eaters of our group. Just tell them you can't have fish.

Hi,
I see from your menus that the majority are fish dishes, is there and option to do chicken as I do not eat fish.
Thank you
Jeanette

Hello Jeanette
No problem at all. We can remove the shrimp from the starter and keep it as chicken only, and the fish amok main can also be changed to chicken.
For yourself and any other readers, we have no problem adjusting dishes to suit dietary requirements, we only ask that people inform us when booking so we can be prepared with the correct fresh ingredients.
Dishes are based on traditional Cambodian cuisine, which is the reason for our listed choices.
We hope you can join us at Champey Cooking Class for a great experience and fun memories.
Kind Regards.
