We booked a 14 minute trip through our tour company Odynovo. It was brilliant, very professional. Our pilot was brilliant, funny and informative, a whole safety briefing before hand and we went up, was a bit hazy but they can't control the weather. Definitely recommend doing it, a great way to see the temples around angkor wat also and appreciate the scale of the complex.

we had an early morning flight at 9am over Angkor Wat, there were only 3 passengers which was great as we all got a window seat. There are 4 seats in the back, so if the helicopter gets full then it may be less enjoyable for the 2 middle seated persons. The company also offered us a 2 person private flight, if we paid for 3 people, but in the end it was only the 3 of us anyway.
As previously stated elsewhere morning and and late afternoon flights maybe better as the sun is less strong, unfortunately when we went it was quite hazy, but that was unusual at 9am ( we were in Siem Reap for 5 days, and this was the only day that it was hazy in the morning).
We got some great photos of some of the other temples and for helicopter flights, its really pretty good value. I would recommend it if you have the spare spending money, as a flight in a helicopter is a great experience.
The company has an office in Siem Reap in a shopping centre on the way to the airport, but i couldnt find the contact details for that, but travel agents and hotels can call and make a booking for you as well.

Friendly staff and great service. The pilot gave us a very informative and interesting overview of not only the landscape but also the history of Siem Reap. An amazing way to see the temples without having to deal with crowds of other tourists. Definitely the highlight of our trip to Siem Reap!!

It's a bit more than the balloon of course but you get to see so much more! Depending on how long your flight is, you can get some amazing shots of the temples, the lake, the countryside, etc. Have flown in both wet and dry seasons. Pilot is very informative. Great experience!!

Had the opportunity to be invited on a private helicopter flight from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.. What an amazing way to see the country. Cambodia, with its flat landscape and fields of rice farming in the provinces really lends itself to this style of sightseeing.
Best time to enjoy this would be during/just after the wet seasons when the landscape is really lush and green..
With smooth take off and landing and great pilots guiding you through the experience, you can really just sit back and relax . The downside being that the next time you take a lesser form of transport the experience will inevitably pale by comparison!
Tip: The front seat next to the pilot is the best for views, giving you the best possible window on the views below. Great for photos too

We decided to take a helicopter ride over the temples on our first day in Siem Reap, and this is the perfect introduction to the sites. The helicopter is modern and clean. Supposedly it can take 6 passengers, but I think it would be pretty crowded if you had that many passengers in it - we had 3 people and it was perfect. The pilot was very friendly and knowledgeable and pointed out all the sights as we approached them and some other general local information. He picked the best route to see the sites and didn't have us taking photos, or looking into the sun etc, which was appreciated very much. I liked the sign in the cockpit - obviously they believe in their product :)

This helicopter scenic tour was an icing to the cake! It's beautiful enough to see the temples on the ground, but to see them from the air is just a breathtaking experience, guaranteed to blow you away. It's a bit pricey but it's all worth it.
Helistar picked us up at our hotel and brought us back without hassle. All I did was communicate and confirm via e-mail. Great service.
Our pilot Phil was very nice and we went to see the temples from the left and right side of the helicopter which can guarantee that everyone will get to enjoy the view.
Manage to snap a lot of pictures, although it was rainy and cloudy that day. Overall it is an amazing experience and I'm glad I chose Helistar.

Me and Wife where at the Angkor Watt for the sunrise view of the temple and by about 8 am when we had done with Angkor Watt, we saw a heli flying around the temple complex. That is when we decided to go ahead and take a heli ride :-)
I requested my guide to book a slot if he knew the Heli operator and by the time I could finish he was talking to the Helistar Office. I got to speak to them as well and all my querie were promptly answered. They offer 3-4 options of flight based on different duration of flight - 8 mins, 14 mins, 20 mins and 48 mins. Not sure if there are any other options other than what was discussed with me.
We chose to go with 14 mins as we felt 8 mins was too short and 20 mins was expensive. Here is the price per son for the flight (in USD):
8 mins - $90
14 mins - $150
20 mins - $200
48 mins - $400 (not sure)
Important to note that its min 3 people per flight. If you do not wish to share the flight, you would be patying more per son for the same duration. If you wish to share, do let them know and they will confirm the booking only after they find someone else to go along with you. So, book in advance and stick to schedule as you might save some money by sharing your flight. They picked us up from our hotel 45 mins before the flight (Siem Reap is not too big as a city) and took us straight to the Siem Reap Airport. We were there 20 mins before our flight. Just a short form to fill, name and nationality. No further checks on passport or identity card. There was no safety instructions either. Then the Heli arrives and we just hop in. As easy as a tram ride :-) Dont forget to ask them to click a snap for you after the flight. My recommendation for tiime of the day to take the flight would be between 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. I felt that is when the sky is clear and blue. Crisp views from the top. Late afternoon could be hazy and if you ar epressed for time and you have booked the afternoon flight and if it rains in the afternoon, you might altogether lose the chance to experience this. TIf you are taking the 14 mins flight, urn-on the video as soon as you sit inside if you are sitting on the left seat as the first 5 mins is when you get the best views of the Angkor area. And if you are on the right, 9-13 mins of the flight gives best views. Tip - Do not hesitate to sit next to pilot, you are allowed and you get the best views from that seat. They will drop you back to your hotel after the flight.
Overall, great & must experience, worth the money and very professional service from Helistar. Thank you!

We took the 200$ 20 minutes flight with a 5 seat helicopter.Comparing to other flights I've experienced(USA,NZ,Victoria falls ) this one is disappointing :
First only the front passenger and those seated on the side are likely to really have good views, despite what they tell you before boarding. That's 2 center back passengers with a very limited view and less possibilities of filming.
As they don't allocate seats according to the weight as it is usually done ,if you want the best place, you have to rudely impose yourself which is something I don't really enjoy.
The flight itself : you do have a bird's eye view of the temples but they are rather remote( regulation? ) and spoted only from one side as the pilot don't fly around them. The landscape around Siem Rap is not that impressive.
I don't think it is worth spending 200 $ on that one if you have flown on an helicopter before and if you are not 5 in your party. The shortest flight (90$ ) is quite sufficient.

Would you recommend a morning or afternoon flight in April?
Written February 27, 2018
For sure both times are nice. I personally prefer afternoon, because the sunset makes the scenery more 3D. This means in the morning the scene becomes more flat, this means less eye-catching

Don't really think it matters what time you do it. Just check with the local about rain I am not sure if you will be in the rainy season when it rains every afternoon ( so I was told). We went late morning ( in September). They will pick up from your hotel and return you to the same place or drop off somewhere else. Great service. Enjoy your trip.

After doing this tour would you still need to visit the temples on foot?
Written February 8, 2017
Absolutely! The view from the air is spectacular and gives you an idea of the enormity of the site, but you need to see it from ground level to feel the impact it would have had on visitors, and also you need to look up close to appreciate the intricate detail of the carvings and construction methods.
