amazing experience
Jan 2020
The chef guide Thi is really friendly, he explained the Cambodian culture very well. We really like the small group cooking class. It was also nice to see the view of the countryside of Siem Reap along the way. We appreciate the charity concept of the cooking class! The food that we prepared (chicken amok, banana flower salad and banana sticky rice) were really tasty. Price is reasonable. We enjoyed the tour in the market and tasting the insects. One small comment: we wished to learn maybe one more main dish which might be something special from Cambodia but less known to tourists.

Dear 171eugenew, Thank you so much for your kindly review to our cooking class. It was a very great pleasure to host you for the Khmer Food and we really glad that you like the food & the experience though. We really happy to see your comment. Please do let us know if anyone who would like to choose something more beyond the recommend dishes. Thank you once again for being a part of our family to support the orphan & the vulnerable children together. Happy travel Ben

Great time cooking with Ben!
Dec 2019
Ben was great and took us to a local market which was really fun to see all the produce, meats and fish. Location is awesome and it was really nice to get out of Siem Reap for a bit. Cooking was fun and done over a traditional wood fire stove, and the food was excellent. Highly recommend supporting this business. Cook some great food while also helping the local community!

Great Experience in authentic environment
Feb 2020 • Friends
Visiting the local market was a very interesting intro into our afternoon. We even tried to eat some insect and found them really tasty.
We were happy to find out that we were going to cool banana blossom salad and Amok. We tired both in restaurants before and liked them a lot. But our result was even better than in the restaurants. We had fünf, a tasty meal and especially the cambodian cooking environment was very interesting. I would highly recommend this trip!

Nice way to spend the morning
Jan 2020 • Couples
Very smooth booking, communication and pick up. It was nice to hear Ben's personal story too whilst he showed us around the market and throughout the cooking experience. We were traveling with another couple and the class was organised in a way that there was good interaction within the group, making the time fly by. It's set in a clean, shaded Countryside house, so good to be able to see something outside the main town. Some negative reviews has said 'its not a cooking class, more like prep' well, a lot of cooking is prep and I personally found it enough of a class that I could recreate these dishes back home from memory.
Some of the reviews (criticism) seems harsh/unfounded. We had a really great time and I would recommend this to anyone who's in Siem Reap for a bit of time and want a relaxing alternative to the markets and temples.

Dear Yennn17, Thank you so much for your review to our cooking class and very much appreciated for your support to our local community. It was such a great pleasure to host you and show you around my lovely country & the countryside (a way out to see deeper than just a tourists attraction). I am very glad that you found us and like the food and the experiences. Throughout this real hands-on cooking, i strongly believe that you can recreate the Khmer food at home with the recipes given though. Wishing you with all the best and happy travel Ben

Best cookery course I could imagine and for a great cause
Jul 2019 • Solo
After wondering what to do in Siem Reap, I decided to do a cooking course.

Ben managed to accommodate my booking even thought it was only 3 hours before the start, I was very happy, and that was the moment I knew it would be a lovely day.
He does this because anyone that goes on the course is directly helping him provide for about 100 orfans which he looks after.

On the course I learnt how to cook a bunch of delicious dishes and did a market tour with just me and Ben. I also got to learn about his life and his story is the most interesting one I've ever heard.

Overall a very personalised and lovely day for a great cause!

Delicious food, great staff, very authentic experience
Nov 2019
Keen to try our hand at cooking local cuisine, we did some thorough research and narrowed it down to three potential classes near Siem Reap. One was booked out for the day we had available, one didn’t seem to offer a very flexible menu, and so we ended up here – and a fantastic morning it was!

Ben picked us up in a tuk tuk right on time (7.30am) and was a fantastic guide right from the start. The tour of the local market prior to the class beginning was quite something – be prepared for things you may never have seen in a market (or anywhere else) before! We didn’t purchase any ingredients from the market, but it was a wonderful experience and definitive eye-opener for sure. Ben guided us throughout and we learnt a great deal about local cuisine – and even braved to try fried crickets (which, by the way, are delicious!!).

We (3 of us – it seems they don’t require a minimum to run the class and it was just us!) found the cooking class to be an exceptionally authentic experience. The food we cooked (and quickly devoured) was AMAZING and we learnt a lot about local cuisine as we worked.

The free pick up and drop off in town was a bonus, and Ben has excellent English and is very knowledgeable and passionate about his country, its people and its cuisine. He was very flexible/accommodating with our food allergies / possible menu items and focused extensively on cleanliness and hygiene – we were very impressed! Bonus that it’s a not-for-profit organization.

Ben followed up a few days after the class with a detailed e-mail, including PDFs of recipes which I am about to cook today!

excellent cooking experience
Nov 2019
Our day started with a tuk tuk ride to the country markets where we were met by Ben. He gave us a guided tour of the markets explaining all the different produce and how they were used in everyday cooking. The sights and smells were amazing. This was followed by the cooking class at his home. It was a very hands on cooking class from shelling the peanuts, chopping herbs, pounding the curry paste to cooking on the fire. Ben was a great teacher. Best of all we sat down and ate the 3 course meal we prepared. The amazing work he is doing with the local orphans is also to be commended. I would thorouhly recommned this activity.

Great food and better company!
Dec 2019
This was an amazing experience and one of the highlights of my time in Siem Reap. I can't speak highly enough of Ben; he was a wonderful guide and teacher and a truly inspiring person. The local market is a refreshing break from all the tourists and affords a special glimpse of everyday life. The food, of course, is delicious, and the instruction is patient and very thorough. As if that weren't enough, the proceeds go to help kids in the local community. Take this class! You won't regret it.

We had such a great time at the cooking class. They were flexible and accommodated the fact that we are vegetarian. They were friendly and very knowledgeable - we had the best time and wouldn't hesitate to go again.
