We heard about the orphanage through my cousin who was here a few weeks before. We arrived at the orphanage and were greeted by a sea of smiling faces, there are about 30/40 children aged from babies to early teens, a looked after by Mr Sok and his team. We played with the children, skipping, football and games that we didn't know and they taught us. We brought a few balls and skipping ropes but the main thing they wanted to have an adults attention and compassion. Mr Sok is doing the most incredible job and were gutted we could only stay a day - already planning a trip to volunteer there next summer.

Sok is a great man, doing great things for great children. I worked at his school and orphanage for a week (wish it could of been more), then did a one day tour of the temples with his good friend and it was the best time of my six months backpacking He's such a knowledgeable, friendly and humble man with great English and was able to teach us so much during our week As for the orphanage, please please please visit. Better still, volunteer there if you have the time. I couldn't recommend it more. We stayed at Soks "Villa", around fifteen minutes from the orphanage, in a beautiful area of Siem Reap- close to farms and villages. Every morning we taught English (very basic) to a group of children, before having breakfast made by house Mum. The teaching was great, the children were there out of choice as for some its the only teaching they receive so they want to learn, but of course they are still children so bring a fantastic challenge as well. Around 11 am, we would then go to the orphanage for a few hours. Whilst here it would simply just playing games and chatting to the children, helping the younger children develop basic skills and older children develop their English whilst learning about their culture and background and teaching them about your own. Again, every day we would be fed an unbelievable email that we ate with the children out in the orphanage yard After we left the orphanage every day, it would be back to the villa for some chill out time- usually filled by playing outside with the local children- mainly ones we taught in the morning or getting beat at cards by the children/ young adults who lived at the Villa more permanently Like I say, if you have the time I really recommend doing this. We could only do a week because of travel plans already booked but I could of spent so much longer. However, even if you just have a week, some enthusiasm for interacting with children and quite good English you will have a great week and make a positive impact on these children. If you don't have the time, I'd still recommend visiting the orphanage in between your tour, you couldn't ask for a better group of children and no doubt they will leave you with an experience you will never forget If anyone needs contact details for organizing volunteering or visiting search Soks Orphanage on facebook, or you can ask me on here and I'll do what I can PS- volunteering with Soks Oprhanage is not one of these schemes where you pay 1000's of dollars. You pay a minimal fee, have fantastic living conditions and are fed like a king

My husband and I, not being able to spend Christmas with our own children, chose to spend Christmas Day at Sok's Children Sanctuary and it is an experience we will never forget. The children are happy, polite, kind, appreciative, very loving and oh so poor! I have been back to visit these children again as well as have Sok take my friend and I on a tour to a small village school. which was enlightening and amazing. Sok is probably the kindest man I have ever met, and is so gracious to recieve anything from anyone. Having been an orphan himself, Sok has put himself through university and knows the importance of an education, which he now passes onto the 40 children in his care. He is such an intelligent man, friendly and so appreciative of anything or any time you can give to his children. I would recommend anyone travelling to Cambodia to visit the school and orphanage as well as use Sok at Cambodia Monkey Tour Service for any tours you may want to go on. The money that Sok makes from running these tours, go to helping feed and cloth his 40 children.
