Entertaining? Well, to someone not yet clued in to what's really going on -- yes, it's adorable. The ACODO children are taken from their poverty-stricken families for a small payment to act like orphans, and generate large profits. The revenue does not provide much (if any) long term benefit to the children or their families.…

While researching things to do in Phnom Penh, I came across the Khmer traditional dance performance and was immediately interested. My husband wasn't too thrilled to go but was singing a different tune afterwards! The dancing and music were incredible! Dancers changed their vibrant and ornate costumes several times. The percussion was upbeat and energetic. There were comedic elements to the show that had people laughing. Tickets were $15 USD and can be purchased at the door. The show is an hour long. Definitely worth it! …

First night in Siem Reap, thought to learn of local cultures and traditions and what better way to explore so? Of course through food and performance. So I chose this as a birthday celebration for two friends, as a group of 6 of us went to this place. USD12 per person (we paid 10USD as discount from hotel) for a buffet dinner with cultural show along with transportation, pretty good deal i must say. So, let me just make this simple and short. Buffet, the food, everything, just awful! The only thing I really enjoyed was salad, which was raw, and I made it myself, very ironic isn't it? Everything else I tried that was made or cooked by the chefs, was NOT coming with the basic decent standard whatsoever. You think you are eating pork ribs, I thought the pig was starved to death or something as there was literally no meat but bones! Or, were the ingredients used are some left overs from else where? I was not impressed and definitely very irritated that no food was tasting ok at all. I am not a fussy person and not trying to be one, I eat a lot of street food in Thailand, per se, but this fancy place is just nasty! The dance performance. Beginning of the show, I was intrigued and of course I watched closely and tried to understand the cultural and historical background of the Khmer society, as the show goes on, my eyes became heavier, my interest erodes so quickly that I literally just wanna get out from there immediately. I tried to convince myself to stay a little longer and I did, it was excruciatingly boring and I did not find the show anywhere near interesting, exciting, intriguing but BORING! I told myself, I simply must warn everyone else to give this a miss. I remember how much fun I had in Saigon watching the Water Puppet show, mind you, i have seen this many many times before but I was still very amused and entertained despite not understanding a word of Vietnamese. This, was hard to chew!…

This small orphanage just south of main roundabout provides a traditional cambodian dance and music show around 630pm most evenings. The children as performers are full of energy and also stay afterwards to meet the audience and to practise speaking english. Our audience was very small but the children still performed as if to a large crowd , the cost is a donation at the end and goes to support their facility…
