The Victory Gate was our first stop in our tour around Ancor Wat and it set the scene for the rest of the visit. You walk over the causeway that is guarded on both sides by these amazing carved warrior statues in various conditions. The ones in good condition demonstrated the intricate detail we were to see throughout the area. The actual gate itself is amazing and so much larger than the photos.

One of the five gates of Angkor Thom, located on the eastern side. Very impressive ruin of Victory Gate of Angkor Thom.

Although restored, it is not as well-preserved as the one at South Gate - many bodies and most heads missing.

As per the other four gates providing entrance to Angkor Thom, Victory Gate is a stunning ancient marvel preceded by a moat with a stone causeway that is lined with a grand naga railing being pulled by 54 stone giants, Asuras and Devas, representing the constant tug of war between good and evil and the ‘Churning of the Sea of Milk’ from Hindu mythology. Few heads of the Asuras and Devas remain and this naga railing can be enjoyed in superior condition on the southern gate.

It is topped by a tall tower with faces of the Buddha carved on all the four sides. For a better view, you can climb atop the stairs on the sides of the gate. This way you can get very close to the huge face and have a bird’s eye view of the naga railings.

Your driver can wait for you on the other side if you want to walk thru.

Not as restored as South Gate, but still very impressive. It is so much bigger when you walk through it - pictures make it look quite small. Had some interesting history and if you have a guide they have some stories to tell about it which is really fun.

Confusion all over whether Victory gate is now East or South.
If it's the East gate it's hands down the most beautifull of them all.
More authentic and lesser traffic compared to the South gate.
A great photo stop.

One of the very interesting gate entrances to Angkor Thom is the Gate of the Victory (east Gate) which is a popular way to exit the city after visiting Bayon, Baphuon and Phimeanakas temples and making way east to other interesting temple runs in the Angkor Ancheological Park such as Ta Keo to the east.

What you will see here is a multi-faced tower gate which you will drive through on tuk-tuk of vehicle. You can walk through this gate entrance as well. On the outside of the gate, you'll find a row of demons and a row of gods on the two sides of a causeway crossing the canal that surrounds the Angkor Thom complex.

The gate and statues are not in as good of condition as the more famous South Gate. However, there are far fewer tourists here so it may be worth your time to stop and have a look around here after spending time in Angkor Thom. Otherwise, if you are short on time, best to focus your efforts on the South Gate instead given its better condition.

A picture in front of Victory gate is a must if you visit Angkor. The best view is coming from Thommanon towards Angkor Thom. On this side, the face on the top of the tower is much neater and clearer than on the other side.

No need to ask your tuktuk driver to go there as it is on your way from Angkor Wat to Bayon Temple or the other way around.

This is an amazing place, not only because of the sculptures along the bridge, not the gate itself, but also because you will probably stop as we did to look at the river itself and the trees around.

I have posted other reviews like for Neak Pean Temple where I have pointed that the surroundings of the Temple are sometimes not less surreal than the Temples themselves.

As usual I have attached pictures and I hope they'll give you a glimpse of the place.

There is a bridge lined with figures leading you to the gate to Angkor Thom.
Be ready for great photo ops with the elephant tusks on either side of the gate.

I saw this gate at the end of my tour of the area. I stopped on both side to take in its history and to imagine what life was like here over 1000 years earlier.

This is the East gate in and is a popular entry/exit. There are statues on the bridge on the outside of it, many of the heads are now replicas of the old originals.

I did like seeing this at the end of the tour as it had many features (as it should) of the Bayon Temple too (the faces) and was, to me, particularly striking in that regard.

Worth checking out either on the way in or the way out of Angkor Thom.

Very interesting Gate with impressive rows of statues along the causeway on the aproach to the gate. There is a small market set up here. This is also where you can walk up the hill to the castle to watch the sunset.
