About
Cambodia has a long and rich history in silk production and weaving dating back more than a millenia. However, there is another little known material that is still being used for weaving and creating various fabrics - water hyacinth. In local farming/fishing communities, the Water hyacinth is known as an invasive plant which grows and spreads on any water body rapidly and can obstruct the natural water flow of any water body. The local people have tried several ways to find good use for the water hyacinth like feeding them to livestock but to no avail. It was a chance discovery when locals discovered that after prolonged exposure to the sun, the water hyacinth takes on a super strong property and could be used for a variety of things. Initially starting out with just making hammocks, it has now evolved into carpets, shoes, bags and the like. We have designed this class for you to get a feel of this versatile material and how it can be used to make several small items that are used i

I cannot recommend Rokhak (both the store and the weaving workshop) enough. It was a gorgeous experience during which I got to learn about their craft, make something beautiful, and speak with the women about their lives and business. Hands down one of my best experiences in Cambodia. And their products are GORGEOUS. 10/10.

One of the highlights of our time around Siem Reap! The class was so pleasant and interesting and everyone in our family learned the basic weaving techniques and produced something attractive.
Excellent project driven by admirable and welcoming women craftspeople. Beautiful products in their shop as well.

This workshop was a hands on experiential education on beautiful weaving, the power of community, beautiful cambodian culture, and resilient women. Working with the Rokhak social enterprise gave me a new appreciation for the mastery and artisanship of handwoven crafts. It was SUCH a thrill to be awful at something and gradually get kinda a-okay, and to produce something beautiful to bring home. 100% recommended to anyone who loves being hands on and meeting authentic people. The meal we collectively prepared was the cherry on top. Amazing food, conversation, and hospitality. We spent 2 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia and this was BY FAR MY FAVORITE EXPERIENCE. If you are in doubt, JUST DO IT. The people and the place are exceptional. Learning is an added bonus. But I will never forget the beautiful afternoon and evening with Rokhak in Siem Riep.

A fantastic class providing a glimpse into Cambodian life and history, and where you actually learn to make a beautiful handicraft all your own. If you want an authentic experience that combines Cambodian history with the hope of its future, this is not to be missed. Highly recommend!

The weaving workshop and cooking together afterwards was a highlight of our trip. The best way to meet people and learn about their lives. I will treasure the basket I made with all the wonderful memories of this experience. Don’t miss out on it when you are in Siem Reap.
