If you are visiting Bakong, Preah Ko is on the right as you enter that road to Bakong.
Built in the 9th century, this Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva. Small, but one of the only ones I got to see, that still have some stucco on the outer walls.
The internal roofs construction was also fascinating, as were the many cyrilic carvings on the doorways.
Definately worth making the time to stop by, only a short walk from the car parking

Part of Roluos group temples, Prea Ko wsa built in 879AD by King Indravarman I and is one of the oldest temples in Siem Reap. Entry is covered in the Angkor Temple pass.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, temple was built as a funerary temple for King's parents and grand parents. There are six towers dedicated to each of the ancestors. The towers in the front row are for paternal ancestors and have male guardians carved on the walls. The towers at the back row for maternal ancestors have female guardians on its walls.

Not as beautiful as Bakong but as it is right on your way to Bakong and you'll pass by it, I'd recommend you stop there and take a few pictures.
These are the Temples you are offered to visit on your 3rd day in Siam Reap by your Hotel or the tuktuks on the streets.
While these temples are not as beautiful as the top 3 included in the 1st day, Bakong is, I believe, more beautiful than those of the 2nd day.
It is just that it takes one hour drive by tuktuk to get there and another hour to get back (with no AC).
Still I believe it is worth your time if you are enough days at Siam Reap.
And as it is not visited almost at all, this means no tourists, no buses, no pushing, no shouts nor even noise whatsoever...just you and this temples in a quiet and serene atmosphere.
Just be there and enjoy the place and its silence.
By the way, just in front of this Temple, on the other side of the road and where your tuktuk will probably park, there is a workshop and models of the some of the most famous Temples in siam Reap.
I have attached a few pictures showing it.

After a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat, back for a hotel breakfast. Then a few of us took the option of going to Bakong and also Preah Ko. Both are definitely worth a look, especially Bakong. The beauty is that they are not nearly as busy as the temples nearer Angkor Wat. Hardly a tourist in any of my photos!!! 😉

Preah Ko is the first temple built in Rolous area. This temple was built under Khmer King, Indravarmawan I in the 879 AD. It is heavily influenced by Hinduism. You will see the lingua used which is Sanskrit on the temple wall.

It takes it own precedence and importance because... it is the oldest temple among the Khmer architectural temples. Where the Meru type or step pyramid like structures was not in practice. Not much architectural beauty, but you will get excited to see it from the entrace - it gives good panaromic view. It has ancient inscriptions...Also the temple is constructed in honour of the kings father... what a remarkable tradition that constructing a temple in honour of parents. I had seen construction being done for honoring the queens by their kings. This is the first time encountering a temple constructed for honoring the parents. This should have been set the trend for constructing temples for honoring their parents by Khmer kings later.

Preah Ko is distinctly different from other temple sites due to the early Khmer architecture, and it is easy to visit along the road.
