    unique way of life
unbelievable floating village on Tonle sap lake. Great insight into rural way of life on journey from Siam Reap, before catching boat to the village. Houses of all shapes and sizes floating on bamboo or oil drums, including shops and a school, and locally caught crocodiles can be seen at souvenir shop, which has a " happy room " (wc). If in Siam Reap, its a must see.

    Floating village
We went in November so there was still a lot of water. We stopped at the Buddha, it can be quite dirty with lots of children trying to sell you things. All harmless. Take a walk around. Make sure you have sunblock. Can get home. Worth a visit.

Fun to see the countryside outside Siem Reap
This was a fun experience! We arranged for a Tuk Tuk to take us round trip from our hotel to the floating village location. There is a stop where you will first buy a ticket ($20 USD), and then it is a short Tuk Tuk ride to the docks. The boat ride was nice and the driver pointed out local sites. You stop for a rest at a floating restaurant, where you have the option of grabbing some thing to drink or eat. There is also an option to go on a smaller boat ride through the mangrove (for an extra charge— this is not included in the ticket price), but my friend and I decided not to do that. Overall recommend this excursion to see a bit of the countryside. The total trip took about 4 hours door-to-door from Siem Reap.

    Kampong Phluk Floating Village
The tour Kampong Phluk Floating Village was great. Our guide Tear picked us up on time. He also had a lot of knowledge about the region and gave detailed explanation. He was funny, helpful, friendly. Made the trip fun, comfortable. Would recommend this tour with Tear to all. Thanks Tear.

    Fascinating insight into village life
Excellent half day trip including village market tour , fruits veges herbs , meats seafood . Friendly locals . A boat trip to the village , as it was the dry season we walked through this area and travelled again by boat to the lake . I would like to see it it the wet season . Charming children and hard working adults in a community that is seeing positive progress in infrastructure . Not an easy life for the community .

Fantastic experience and food for thought
One of the poorest places in Cambodia and if you visit there, take the time to ensure the locals get a chance to sell you something, even if you don’t need it. Fascinating place to visit and the people are friendly. What you need to know is NOT to go there in A Tuk-Tuk or remoque . Only by bus or car !!!! It is very dusty to get there and not pleasant if you’re going to get the dust in your eyes , mouth, nose and ears. You will have to pay $25 per person for a boat trip, or you cannot get in! But it is worthwhile!!

    Look beyond photo ops.
This is a place everyone should visit, not because it’s fun or pretty but because it’s a lesson about how poor, voiceless and helpless people are treated. The lake on which they “float” is dying along with their homes and heritage. Newly built hydroelectric dams upriver are starving the lake of water and the one soon be built just upriver in Laos will kill it. A large population of people who depend upon fishing and rice farming are being displaced with abject disregard for their welfare. Yes, visit. Yes, buy their wares. But please take time away from snapping selfies and look at what is before you and understand how and why it is happening.

    Kampong phlox floating village
Our guide ,Meng, from Angkor Travel Tour, did a great job on this tour. Even though it is the dry season and the village is not in the water at present he made it very interesting in seeing the contrast of the village conditions between wet and dry seasons. The boat trip on the lake was still memorable. Meng was passionate about the life there and had good knowledge about recent history. The tour went very smoothly.

It’s amazing opportunity to see the lifestyle of the small community
The most important thing to understand the lifestyle of locals is a good guide who can tell how this comune established, the principles of their life. I was very lucky my guide was Tear, the kindest man, btw he warned us not to buy the books and etc for children, or just give the locals money, because it’s a scam there are a lot of sponsors and children there have it all. He advised us make them earn it by buying water or buying small river excursions. There is an option to get small excursion in floating forest on a boat, it’s so chill, the nature is beautiful. One thing I didn’t like about this place was trapped crocodiles and sad that it’s a very common thing in Asia.

This tour was excellent. We were picked up at our hotel with our guide Lux. We were taken to a wet market and Lux was very friendly and informative as we walked through.
We were then taken by boat because it was wet season to the Cambodian village on stilts. We handed out packets of sweets to the local children who were passing by also on boats. Lux called them over to us and we took photos.
Lux pre-arranged a visit to a family home in the village on stilts. We were allowed to take photos inside the house and Lux took a photo of us with the family and was an interpreter when we wanted to ask them questions.
The family were very friendly and welcoming. We felt privileged to spend time with them .
Lux bought a bag of shrimp from the family which they had caught that very morning and the mother of the home cooked a portion from the bag. lux shared the shrimp with my husband. We gave a cash donation to the family when we were leaving.
Lux speaks excellent english. He gave us lots of information on the way there and back in the car, as-well as during the tour. Lux makes you feel very relaxed as though you have known him for a longtime. He was very enthusiastic and proud of this country and we would recommend this tour with Lux to anyone who wants to know more about Cambodia and its history.

This a terrible example of a community tourism project. There is no explanation or meaningful interaction with community members - just endless pressure to part with more money on top of what is already an expensive trip. The boat ride past the houses feels like a human zoo, then you get dumped on a barge that has a bar, pictures of local fish on the walls (and a tank full of very unhappy looking local wildlife) and lots of women on canoes waiting to take you on a mangrove tour for an extra $15. The point that that this is their only opportunity to make money is emphasised so it's difficult to say no (and realistically this was the better part of the whole trip, although the women don't interact or seem to enjoy paddling tourists through the trees). There is also a crocodile 'farm' in reality just a cage, in which far too many large animals are cooped up together and are frequently aggressive to each other. The whole trip was incredibly depressing. An example of how tourism shouldn't be done

Our guide, Mad or Mr. October, was very friendly and competent in his work, giving all the information of the spaces we visited correctly and at the same time pleasant and captivating. He made several demonstrations during the visit, both at the market and during the boat ride. We really like the guide for his knowledge and attitude. I highly recommend.

A visit here not only benefits tourists but also helps to support the local community. The people who have settled in villages along the shores of Tonlé Sap (the largest freshwater lake in southeast Asia) live in harmony with the rise and fall of the water. It’s a nice break from the temples and provides an educational glimpse into rural life outside of Siem Reap. I recommend the tour with Journey Cambodia.

There are people live on lake but it is amazing to see different life of people there. Take boat from entrance and boat drive though cannel and floating village to lake tone sap. Must it because it is completely different what you have saw.

Going there feels as going to a human zoo. Residents are being exploited and tourists are used to serve as an income, without being ethical at all. Residents are only happy if you buy something, which maybe sounds logical but it is the case because of the way it is organized in this village. Also, in the floating village there is a crocodille 'sanctuary' where crocodilles are basically trapped Don't recommend at all as you are paying entrance fees which are benefiting companies, but not the local community living there
