It is not far from town, just took and 25 minutes drive by tuk tuk and bought tickets $7 pet tickets for sharing boat but you have to wait until till they have 4 tickets bought that you can join. If you don't want to wait, you you to buy in all amounts of tickets for private boat to floating village.

Accompanied friends on this boat ride on a rainy day. Obviously this is a gimmicky tourist trap, which for the record I am willing to overlook. However, the reason for this review is because our boat guide drove inappropriately under the water conditions and collided with docked boats. He not only endangered his own life he also endangered the residents of the village and of course us, his occupants, on the boat. What really annoys me the most about the whole experience is his inability to acknowledge his folly. He really didn't meaningfully apologize to anyone he endangered or affected.

Don’t go. Just awful to see my fellow Cambodians be so shady.
Something didn’t feel right while buying rice and water for the children & we were right. They pocket the money and take the supplies back at the end of the day. Hope this gets shut down immediately.

This place is a total rip off . We don’t usually get caught out as we do a lot of travel, and we should have done some research . After paying to get on the muddy water for a 20 min boat ride. We got to the main platform and was advised we had to pay $20 each for the small boat around the so called floating village

Total scam. Good that we have pre-bought tickets for the tour with our driver. When we arrived some shady typo followed us to the boat and acted real friendly. Asked some questions and started to tell about "village". I suspected foul play - so stopped talking with him. When boat stopped in the lake I asked him whether he is tour guide. He declined. They dropped us on some floating restaurant with some crocodiles stacked in small cage with no water. Fancy place, but not much to see. We checked everything fast and then they just drove us back. 20 bucks for short ride on dirty river. And this all goes to some strange company which owns this place. I would not be surprised if all this village would be fake and company would not let these people to leave this horrible place just to keep them for tourist amazement... I regret that we took this tour. Avoid it by any means...

This is a trip which educates you about poverty, people who have nowhere else to live except on this floating village. The water is brown and smells similar to a water recycling plant. It has a degree of interest but it is not a beautiful place, there is nothing but extreme poverty. I am at a loss as to why this tour exists and if I had prior knowledge would not have gone, why would a country display such a thing to tourists.

This is a SCAM. We were recommended to go by our Tuk Tuk Driver from the hotel for extra monies. Beware the boat company, has no signs about pricing so they can fluctuate the prices but on average they charge $20usd per person for 90min on a muddy river. After about 5km they stop at a small platform where they say to enter the village it will be an additional $25usd per person to go inside the village in a small powerboat. Do not give any money to anyone!!! The tour guide is in this SCAM as well and will ask for $20-30 tip after you decline the powerboat people and he will show you the village. He will keep trying to ask for tips and donations for rice and school supplies for $50 or any monies you have as he says a typhoon hit and killed 40percent of the population. After you decline everything and hope you aren't out $100 after paying for the boat tickets. The guide will get angry and stop talking to you. Giving a sense he'll mug you or rob your monies on the boat. This left us so scared and salty and wondered if our Tuk Tuk driver was part of the scam for driving us to such a place. We felt like after this trap it gave us a new view of negativity on Cambodia itself for integrity/honesty of the people.

Friends
Four of us hired a boat to tour the floating village. It was an interesting ride down the river and the floating restaurant looked nice although we didn't go. We were told that there is an alligator farm there we could see but we weren't interested and expected extra costs. When we got closer to the village, we were told that we needed to hire a smaller boat without a motor (uses poles because water is very shallow), to go inside the village. We said no thank you, then it was suggested that we visit the school which is also an orphanage and we should buy some rice from the floating store to take to them as they survive on charity. The store charged twice the going rate. There were children at desks but no school work being done. It felt fake and later we saw a sign that said not to visit orphanages because children are not tourist attractions. We were glad we went on the boat trip. It was a lovely and interesting ride but beware of extra requests for money and don't go to the school.

Nothing amazing or anything. Would have preferred to skip it.
Also very disappointed at the chained up gibbon (monkey) at the touristy dock we stopped at.
VERY DISAPPOINTED. I don’t recommend. If you look at my picture you can see the monkey is chained by its neck and is trying not to sit on the wire they have used for its cage. Disgusting.

Hi Julie, we were also ripped off/ scammed here. I am going to continue to review this trip at least once a month, hope you will also do so cos the sooner we can stop other people being sucked in by this trip the better.
More importantly to stop the kids in the "orphanage " school being exploited if VERY important to me
Have never ever had a worse experience in years & years of travelling in Asia.

Someone needs to do something about this!! I am worried about the fake orphans on the boat, I don't know if they are real, or they are being held as hostage by those bastard tour guides!

hello, you really thing 100$ each is a decent price for a poor tour on a noisy and inconfortable boat is a normal in cambodia ? you have no pb to pay this much of money for visiting very poor people who live in horrible conditions ? you like human zoo ? and you have no pb to let the boat compagny exploit those poor people and not giving them any money ? 20$ is the price for angkor site with acces to all monument ! no need answer i sure you are a fake comment about this scam tourist trap.

Agree with you, ultimate rip off, but more importantly "abuse" of young children. I am going to continue to review this every month TILL everyone who reads these reviews avoids this activity. Hope you will too
