Okay place to visit at night. You’ll get bombarded by tuktuk drivers and shop owners left and right. You’ll start to notice soon enough that everyone sells the same things and none of the “handmade goods” are actually handmade...

Lots of interesting things for sale at inexpensive prices. Good place to dine, have drinks or just ice cream and enjoy the lively, fun atmosphere. I had an amazing foot massage/pedicure in bath water loaded with mini Garra Rufa fish.

All the stalls have similar clothing and accessories so don't forget to ask for a discount! The night market gets busy around 8pm & that's the time the thefts are active & in search for oblivious tourists. I was a victim of this. A lady cut open my longchamp bag with a knife as she walked past & at the time i thought she just bumped into me & thought not much of it. But soon after I kept seeing the same lady wherever I went & seemed very suspicious. She continued to follow me for about 10 minutes & stopped if i went into a store. I finally realised that she was stalking me to find a good timing to reach into the hole to grab my phone & wallet. Luckily I stared her down & noticed the big hole in my bag before she could reach into it.
Please be careful as it could potentially ruin your holiday! The thefts are very professional & police won't be much help. My tips are to carry your backpack in front of you & if you have a shoulder bag make sure it's thick & hard to cut through. Just be wary of your surroundings!

On a recent trip to Siem Reap I along with 5 friends purchased watches at the night market, do not make the same mistake. After just 10 days three of the watches had stopped working. As we were returning to Siem reap after traveling around Cambodia we took the watches back only to be told that for $12 nothing could be done, we were actually told if we wanted guarantee we should pay $100 in a proper shop. The owner of the stall who had been the most pleasant of ladies when we were spending money turned into the rudest woman I have ever met. Since returning to the UK the other three watches have also stopped working. My advice stay clear of the watch stalls in Siem Reap.

Okay, so markets in Cambodia are all pretty similar. If you've already bought your Krama, your Angkor Beer tank top and your baggy elephant trousers, then there won't be much new for you here. But this market is still the best in town for several reasons.
Firstly, if you walk to the back of the market, there are several large stalls / shops selling genuine handmade scarves and silk products. These are a little more expensive than the machine made rubbish on the rest of the stalls, but the step up in quality is really noticeable. It's worth a couple of extra dollars to buy something that you know the provenance of, and that really stands out as handmade and authentic.
The second thing is that (despite the comments of other reviewers), you really aren't hassled here as much as at the old market. Sure, the girls at the stalls ask you if you want to buy something. It's a market, they wouldn't be doing their job otherwise. But they aren't as insistent or pesky as they can be elsewhere.
Thirdly, there is a great bar in the centre of the market called Island Bar. Fancy an ice cold cocktail in an open air bar to ease the strain of a long shopping session? This is the perfect place. I also hear good things about the food stalls dotted around behind Island Bar.
All in all, this is the best market in town!

If you're looking for trinkets, souvenirs, cheap food and drinks you don't need to go much further than the night market. An easy place to pop your feet up and unwind from the long day of exploring the numerous temples around Angkor Wat. Drinks are cheap and the variety of food both local and western is abundant.
There's a lot of massage places which is great cause even with comfy sneakers to explore the temples it still does take it toll. Bought a couple of tee-shirts for gifts for folks back home and its all relatively cheap.
FRIENDLY TIP: the vendors in the night market aren't pushy and all pretty polite, everything's negotiable and priced reasonably. Just remember when you're negotiating with them you're not stopping them from buying their next car or a luxury watch its the food they can bring home to their family or money they can use to send their kids to school. I do bargain but don't mind giving them a couple of extra bucks knowing that I can do without a cup of overpriced coffee vs. a bowl for their family or school supplied for their children (*conscious tourist / travel*)

Some other things to do in Siem Reap except for the temples. There're a lot of things sold here. It's a crowed local market with so many cultural religious local stuff. It's hot though.

I actually really like this market! Compared to other markets that we've been to this one seemed really clean and organized! Lots of variety, but of course markets get a little repetitive, but I really did enjoy this one :D The people who run the stalls however, they try and sell you everything, like literally try to suck you in, so be prepared to stand your ground if you don't actually want it! There was lots and lots of bugs as well! But we did have a nice time :D

Actually you can. But if have any suspicions in mind, just hire a tuk tuk which will be few dollars only. You will have to walk there in any case when you reach the place. It's not that scary also. Just a normal market and pub street is full of people and most of them are tourists only.

Hi vimlamak,
Thank you for advice.
I did ask the hotel that I indented to reserve my room with. Their answer was really non committal which makes me even more jittery. Guess they wanted my business...
Hence I posted the question here.
thanks for your opinion too, but I also want to eat at the night market , shopping aint a big deal for me.
Anyone with knowledge, please advise.

Does anyone know why most of the seller does not accept USD2 here? They told me it's "no value" but in fact I just bought ticket for Angkor park earlier that day with it ?

I just found out the answer...Thx
I'm a solo traveller and also a student so I don't have much money. Before coming to Cambodia I didn't know about the currency so I changed my 300$(All I have) to RIel but almost all sites encourage to use USD. What do I have to do? I'm planning to stay in Siem Reap for 4days and I only have Riel... Help

I think you will be ok. Most places accepted it without any hassle. Just ask for the price Riel if they tell you it in dollars.

Can i exchange Australian Dollars in to Cambodian Riel if so were can i do this in Siem Reap and what rate would i get for 1 AUD , also what about changing AUD in to USD in Siem Reap

I regret I cannot answer your questions definitively. There are money changer outlets in various locations, so changing AUD into local currency should not be a problem. If you haven't set off on your travels as yet, I recommend you take with you USD (rather than AUD) as nearly all prices are quoted in USD - from tuk-tuks to restaurants. Take with you plenty of USD1, 5 and 10 notes, as larger denominations could be difficult to receive change in USD. The few times we received local currency in change, we always used that first and then topped up with USD. Hope this helps. Regards and enjoy your trip!

How many percent of the price quoted should I bargain?
luispary1
Spokane, WA55 contributions
At first ..Stay quiet as if you are not very interested . They will then offer a special price . Bargain from there . The price they will initially tell you is at least 2x more than what they are willing to sell for.
If you check my review on that I have made some detailed suggestions about your question
