Today, Dara conducted his first cooking class. After our welcome towels and fruit drinks, he took us to an authentic market. I saw other reviews that the market was not clean - it is authentic market with great food that is frequented by locals, so yes, it is not an air conditioned supermarket with everything wrapped in cellophane :>). We returned to a nice area outside of the hotel pool to prepare and cook our lunch. The hotel management and other experienced chefs stopped by to support Dara and ensure his first class was a success. Their support was great and enhanced the overall experience. The staff set up a nice table inside for us as my mother was getting a little warm in the tropic outdoors. It was wonderful!

This was such a good thing to do. We were staying at the privilege floor at the resort and did the class in the palm-shaded garden. It was like a tv cooking show set ! Chef POTHEA was so kind and patient My husband (who has absolutely NO cooking skills, got right into the prep And was a good little sous-chef) chef POTHEA not only explained the taste-pairings but gave us lots of good advice about growing and preserving the vegetables and amok paste. He showed us how the lemongrass grew and different herbs (I will try that in the U.K. on a sunny windowsill or conservatory). Finally we cooked. The staff took the food off and dressed it beautifully and then we sat and ate it like celebrities. It was brilliant. Did I really cook that? I have the recipe book from the chef and will definitely try)
We looked at other classes in the town but this one was perfect
It was terrific fun and I am amazed at how patient chef Pothea was with us. We were clumsy and not like his impeccable. Staff. But the end result was a delicious meal and the inspiration to go home and try it ourselves
Thank you chef Pothea.
The wonderful thing was to do this cooking class in the gardens under the palm trees !
I may not be a Michelin star chef but it tasted like it at the end of the course

We were the only ones signed up for the cooking class that day so we had the chef all to ourselves. They set up outside in the garden next to the pool. It was not just educational but such a lovely relaxing experience. At the end we got to sit and enjoy the wonderful meal and went home with a recipe book.

We booked this through buffalo tours and they arranged a lovely air conditioned car to drop us off and pick us up.

The hotel is lovely and on arrival they gave us a cool drink. Pethea, our chef, met us and took us to the old market. He explaned that the sights and smells, especially in the high humidity can be confronting for some people and we could leave if we wanted to. But I was amazed how little smell there was. The food is so fresh that there are no horrible smells.

Back at the hotel we were taken to a lovely garden where a pop up kitchen was set up and Pethea started cooking. To be honest, we didn't do a lot but mostly watched while Pethea chatted to us about the food. He was great at giving us lots of information and cooking tips, without it feeling like a formal cooking class.

The meal at the end of the class was fantastic. I don't eat meat and they catered really well for that.

I'd definitely recommend this class and if you asked for Pethea, you couldn't go wrong.

We met with our chef Bunsoeurb Chham who was great fun and took us to the local market to buy ingredients and try some local delicacies before returning to the Lotus Blanc Hotel where we were staying on the Privilege Floor.
On our return the cooking ingredients and burner were laid outside on tables ready for our lesson. Bunsoeurb was keen to get us involved and very helpful as we made 3 dishes. He also took photos and videos during the lesson and chatted about his family and life in Cambodia. After the lesson the dishes were served to us on traditional trays with a drink in the restaurant. Something different to do on holiday and we loved the experience despite one of us having no cooking skills! We also got a certificate of completion and recipe book as a keepsake at the end.

First we went to the local market to buy the ingredients which was a real eye opener to see. Lots of lovely fruits and vegetables on display. The variety of ingredients was explained in great detail and my teacher OrRithya was excellent and patient with me. After preparing and cooking the food, it was served to us in our own private setting outside near the pool. Fantastic! An experience I shall never forget.

Chef Bunsoeurb provided a 1st class experience, starting with a trip to the market to purchase the produce for our class. His interaction with the produce vendors was wonderful to watch and he guided me to what was safe for me to eat (celiac), Chef also customized the menu to accommodate my allergy. Sharing this experience with my son, made for a very memorable experience. Loved the outdoor cooking space & the staff was fun & attentive. I have been fortunate enough to take cooking classes around the world and this experience makes the top of my list. We created a delicious and beautiful meal.
