Under construction - don't go during rain season
Feb 2020 • Couples
We were very enthusiastic to go to here. We were fully prepared with insect repellend and water to go for a half day walk. Unfortunately you could only walk around the lagoon and a bit in the forest because the rest was according to the staff under construction. We didn't see anyone work. But what we noticed was that most paths were flooded. We tried to go but the water was sometimes 15cm high. So we turned around seeing just butterflies and insects. Around the lagoon we saw several types of lizards, the alligator and some beautiful birds.

I think when rain season is over you can enjoy but during rain season it's not good :(

Jardin Botanico Santa Cruz

Yesterday we visited the Botanical Garden, with the high hopes of catching a glimpse of a hero of mine - a Sloth!

Unfortunately, the sneaky guy was nowhere to be found.
Mind you, this park is 217 hectares of lush forest and trails.

We only spent about 3 hours there and even though we sprayed ourselves twice (with citronella) the mosquitos were relentless. My fiancee was their victim, as she got quite a few bites.

We did see plenty of birds and fishes, an alligator and a few turtles in the lagoon. Another turtle was roaming the park like a maniac and almost got me

This place is definitely worth a visit if you're in town

Good for spotting animals
Oct 2019 • Couples
Visited the park by taking a collectivo for 2 bs per person. Park itself cost 10bs per person. There were a lot of screaming children but whe we walked a little but further it got quiet. We saw monkeys, birds, turtles, a sloth and a snake! Quiet a nice half day tour

Beautiful gardens in Santa Cruz
Sep 2019 • Couples
The botanical gardens were a highlight of our stay in Santa Cruz. Located about 30 minutes by Uber from downtown, the gardens include both landscaped gardens and trails through naturally forested areas. There are restrooms and a cafeteria near the entrance of the gardens, but no facilities back into the forest. It was hot, dry and buggy in the forest, so bring bugspray and water if you go for a hike. Lots of birds both in the forest and in the lake which also has caiman to view.

Amazing Sloth sightings!
Sep 2019 • Solo
I came here after an unsuccessful day of searching for sloths the prior day. I found 2! One was very active and we watched him move trees. I was even able to pet him. I took an Uber both ways and had no issues.

Good place to see local animals
Sep 2019 • Family
I really enjoyed the walk through the botanic garden, a lot of nature and animal.. You can find turtles alligators lizards monkey sloths and all the variety of Bolivian birds. If you like to take photos you'll love it. There is also a Mirador where you can see everything from the top if you are willing to climb there stairs. Only good thing to be careful are the mosquitos that can eat you alive if you go without protection

Half a day for watching wildlife
May 2019 • Couples
We spent 3 hours in this place on our own for watching animals, and we saw a lot !

Mostly birds: various species among parrot, tanager, hummingbird, woodpecker, kingfisher, heron ...

We also saw monkeys and turtles.

At some parts you would almost think being in the forest.

Good place if you like animals and do not have much time to spend for longer activity.

Good way to spend an afternoon!
Apr 2019 • Couples
Visited the gardens one afternoon, and had a nice time walking around and would recommend. We got the local bus (2Bob per person) to the gardens which took about 30-40mins. Entrance was 10Bob. The paths where well marked out and there was enough to do/see for a few hours. We saw lots of tortoises and caiman, but unfortunately no sloths! We also then combined this with visiting Cotoca which didn't have much to offer and was a further 10-15mins on the bus. Would recommend the gardens for those looking to spot some wildlife/get out of the city. Just remember to take some decent mosquito repellent!

Beware of muddy paths!
Nov 2018 • Couples
This is a lovely and different botanical gardens. There is lots of wildlife around the lake. However when we tried to venture deeper into the gardens the oaths were very muddy so we couldn't get very far. In wet season you need to wear good shoes/Wellington if it's been raining to make the most of the park!

Beautiful natural escape from the city!
Nov 2018 • Couples
This is a beautiful, well cared for botanical garden with a diverse range of flora and flauna. We wandered for hours and easily stumbled across enormous butterflies, bright green lizards and colourful birds. We were lucky to see a sloth curled up in a tree! A member of staff helped us to find it so it’s worth asking. We also saw two large caimans in the lagoon.
