Fast boat takes about 1.5 hours. High elevation bring a big hat and long sleeve shirt if sunny. No sun screen. Why? Because sun screen is bad for pachamama.

Isla del Sol is a beautiful place, especially to rest. I'm sorry I only stayed 2 nights.
There are 2 communities where you can stay, I stayed in the Yumani community (southern side of the island) in Utasawa hostel (beautiful view, excellent rooms, delicious breakfast and Jasmín's charming assistance, highly recommended). The boat service to the south port leaves in 2 schedules (30 bs), however, if you cannot leave at the established times there are boats leaving as they gather a number of passengers (this is what we did, 50 bs per person).
When I arrived on the island they charged me 10 Bs to enter (5 Bs for nationals), they have an interesting archaeological heritage to discover in both the south and the north. I walked from south to north and in the Challapampa community I took a boat to return to the south (300 bs, I assume it is negotiable).
On the south side there are several places to eat, in the north there are also restaurant services with reasonable prices.
I recommend staying for several days, enjoying the view and seeing the stars at night.

Reading some of the reviews it is very obvious you need to ensure you have a bona fide trip or tour booked. I travel mostly on my own but had a parent company Condor Travel to make all the arrangements. I traveled with a large contingent on a motorised Catamaran to the Isla del Sol or Island of the Sun. The legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire. Not for the fainthearted to climb to the top. Very arduous. Marveled at the locals who traversed up and down the path many times per day bringing their goods up from the harbour. Some cafes along the way served great food. Had a superb meal of fresh trout at one. Stunning views from the top. Lots of great things to see, a well presented museum. Some great examples and history of the reed boats, and a blessing from a Shaman. Wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Wouldn’t recommend to do this, it’s a nice walk with some nice views, but you can get just as nice views from free hikes in Copacabana. Be prepared for very poor time keeping, from the boat, to the tour guide, to returning to Copacabana. Also be prepared to pay 10 bolivianos each for entering islands, entering “doorways” and just generally being on the island. The tour guide did not speak a word of English and despite speaking Spanish we found it difficult to figure out what time our boat was leaving as he was quite vague about the timing, and asked if we wanted to “stay with him” we nearly got stuck on the island for the night. Our phones also switched to Peru time while there, be careful you don’t miss the boat! The Inca ruins were quite beautiful and interesting to see, but did not make up for the overall experience.

With my partner, we left Copacabana at 8:30 for Isla del Sol, Yumani, without hiring any tour. The boat takes 1h15 to make the 11km that separate the island from the sun of Copacabana, the one-way ticket cost us 30bs. We did the round of the island, which is 19km with 700 positive slope in about 3 hours. It is worth doing the full lap, I was fascinated with the beauty of the place. Do not forget blocker because the sun hits very hard at 4000 m high. At approx 13hrs we were already back to Yumani and asking in tickets, a Bolivian with a boat looking for people to bring back to Copacabana, charged us 40bs. I think it would be interesting to stay a night or two, because of the beautiful and quiet place.

This was an incredible trek!! Catch the 8:30am boat from Copacabana, then get a private boat to Challabampa. From there hike north to the Incan ruins. You’ll need to pay a tax while walking to both the southern part of the island, and the northern part (keep your receipts). From there head south along the western ridge all the way to Yumani. The views will blow your mind!! Have lunch on the sun deck at one of the restaurants along the rim in Yumani, then hike through the village and down the stairs to the port. You should have more than enough time to catch the 4pm boat back to Copacabana.

Well, I actually climbed this in October of 1993 . I drank and drank from it. I just turned 60 but look in my 40’s !! I attribute it to these magical waters.
Make sure when you travel to these high altitudes you get a scrip for Diamox. It will save you days of pure torture

We took the ferry from Copacabana to Yumani (30 Bs) and walked to Challapampa all the way in the North. It wasn't a problem at all (Saturday afternoon), a local even told is that the conflict is over. The North has beautiful beaches and also a few hostels, even though you'll find nothing online. Just ask around, for example Fredy or Eva are renting rooms for one or more nights. We then took a regular ferry back from the North to Copacabana, but this one may only go on Sundays.

Within the travel itinerary to Bolivia, in September/2023, Isla del Sol was included for everything it represents in the history of the Inca people. However, in all the blogs and content previously researched, there was not a single mention regarding the difficulty of getting around this location. Is beautiful? Yes. On the other hand, it is extremely difficult to access the accommodation, which is accessed on trails where poor animals (donkeys) travel, carrying tourists' luggage up the mountain.

Island with fantastic views, from which we were able to appreciate enchanting sunrises and sunsets. We stayed in the Yumani village which can be reached by climbing the challenging steps of the Inca spring. The following day we trekked over 20km from the sun temple to the sacred rock and sacrifice altar
