This tour, led by a Random House travel author (in English), will take you to the heart of Andean religion, a combination of ancient Incan beliefs combined with Catholic teachings. Get a traditional Aymara blessing by a shaman overlooking Lake Titicaca. Witness the "challa," where cars are dosed with beer as a tribute to Pachamama, the Andean mother earth. Ironically, the cars are also blessed by a priest and doused with holy water as part of the entire ritual. Light candles in a sacred spot in the hopes that the Virgin Mary will offer health, money or love. (Or simply witness others doing it.) Browse "alasitas," miniature cars and houses that are blessed by a shaman and a priest, ensuring that the owner will receive the real full-size thing the following year. Enjoy lunch at the home of a Bolivian family or at the main market. COST: $39, includes lunch. Does not include tips paid to the shaman. (Yes, they work on tips.) DATES: Offered on Saturdays and Sundays.
