Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Old Works has been reborn on the site of Anaconda's historic century old copper smelter. The first course ever built on a Federal EPA Superfund site, Nicklaus incorporated many historic relics in his design. With its affordability, course conditioning and friendly service, Old Works is quickly building a reputation as one of the premiere, daily fee golf experiences in the Northwest region.

For the second year in a row we played here for 36 holes in one day as part of our fall golf and fishing adventure. Surrounded by history, the course was in excellent condition. Holes 10 and 11 are always a special challenge with the water cutting across in front of the greens. The staff was friendly. Good choices available... More

This Nicklaus course's claim to fame is its black slag bunkers. The site was mined for copper for decades leaving mountains of the stuff. The designers decided to use it. The grain is heavy but slick, making it easy to get out of a bunker but hard to put any spin on the ball. It's an enjoyable course, not too... More

Flat out coolest course I've ever played. The terrain, views, bunkers, history all add up to fantastic experience! Fair course that can have some teeth if the winds are up. This will be on the top of my list to play every time I'm in Montana!

This golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is not only beautiful, it is a great example of environmental management. Built on the site of a large, but shutdown copper mine and smelting operation, the land has been reclaimed and beautified in a very creative way. The sand traps are filled with black slag from the smelting - it works perfectly... More

As a Phoenix resident, I spend part of the summer in Anaconda, MT - visiting friends wanted to play golf so I took them over to Old Works. I had never been to the course and we found a lovely 18-hole course. For me, as a beginning golfer, the driving range and 3-hole practice course was perfect. We rented clubs... More

Played here for the first time in 15 years. The designs of the greens are great, plus the rough makes for a demanding Tee shot. The bunkers around the greens are very playable. Well-maintained golf course, if you haven't played here I think you'll like it.

On the advice of a friend who lives in Bozeman, MT I booked a tee time at Old Works. WOW. Being a FL boy I did not know what a treat I was in for. Very well maintained, a beautiful Golden Bear design, this was a real treat. Just be ready for a little wind and black ground slag (I... More

It was a great course with stunning vistas but we've played better courses. Price was a little exorbitant for 2 retirees but we felt like getting to play a course designed by Jack Nicklaus was worth the cost. All in all, we enjoyed the day but probably will stick to Fairmont if we are back thru this area.

Had a 3 PM tee time, and was allowed to go out early. I loved every aspect of the course with the one small downside that the greens were running a little slow. The course was in fantastic condition and if ever in the area again I would most definitely play. You get a yardage book but no GPS. GPS... More

I drove an hour and a half from Missoula to play this course. I had read it was rated one of the top in the state. It was a very nice course built on an old waste site. It uses the black sand from the local mines. A very unique looking golf course. The course was designed by Jack Nicholas.... More
