Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Old Works has been reborn on the site of Anaconda's historic century old copper smelter. The first course ever built on a Federal EPA Superfund site, Nicklaus incorporated many historic relics in his design. With its affordability, course conditioning and friendly service, Old Works is quickly building a reputation as one of the premiere, daily fee golf experiences in the Northwest region.

Had a 3 PM tee time, and was allowed to go out early. I loved every aspect of the course with the one small downside that the greens were running a little slow. The course was in fantastic condition and if ever in the area again I would most definitely play. You get a yardage book but no GPS. GPS... More

I drove an hour and a half from Missoula to play this course. I had read it was rated one of the top in the state. It was a very nice course built on an old waste site. It uses the black sand from the local mines. A very unique looking golf course. The course was designed by Jack Nicholas.... More

We have played this course twice. It's was designed by Jack Nicklaus, yet is modestly priced. Challenging and starkly beautiful. The sand traps are made from gleaming, sparkling black slag left behind from Anaconda's copper-smelting days. It's long so a golf cart is recommended. Often windy and cool so dress accordingly.

The Old Works golf course is beautifully designed around an old copper smelt facility. Remnants of the factory can be seen on several holes. The course also uses slag (a black sandlike substance residual from the smelting process) instead of sand for their sand traps. This gives the course a unique look. There are elevation changes which also make the... More

As always The Old Works was more golf course than my game could handle but that does not necessarily ruin the experience of playing this beautiful sited course. It is a visual gem and worth the green fee. We played twice, after 3p.m. at their twilight rate--this round was actually more pleasant than the later mid-morning round. We had no... More

Simply an incredible Jack Nicklaus layout that can be played anywhere from around 6,000 yards to the tips which stretch out to about 7700 yards. Spectacular scenery. A history lesson as well. The 20 year old golf course is a protective cap on top of waste from Anaconda's first smelting location. Black sand abounds. Very unique but extremely good to... More

We have played on nearly 100 golf courses, and Old Works is truly unique. We try to play here at least twice every season. One of the most visually unusual features is the use of black slag to replace sand in traps and along fairways. Views of the surrounding hills/mountains are fabulous. The golfing season is relatively short here, even... More

Old Works is one of the most beautiful and unusual courses anyone will ever have the privilege to play. The views are second only to the course itself. I travel 100 miles several times a year to play this hidden jewel.
