The Cog railway is a must when in St Wolfgang, a bit expensive, but boy what spectacular views when you get to the top. Well worth paying for, you'll have to go a long way to see anything more spectacular. If you are in St Wolfgang you already know how beautiful the lake is, imaging being able to see at... More

Scenic train ride to the top of the mountain above St. Wolfgang on a purpose built cog wheel train to tackle the mountain slope. Trains running regularly, we joined the short cue bought our tickets for the next available train which was about an hours wait. Coffee shop across the road soon filled the wait. Train carriages are filled to... More

Whether you are into trains, engineering excellence, impressed by the shear audacity of putting a railway up a mountain or just fantastic views, the Schafberg Cog Railway covers them all. Choose your day and time carefully, we went at the end of the holiday season and on any fine day the queues were building all the time. When this happens... More

A must go trip if you are in Wolfgangsee. A round trip train ticket was € 34, to get on a steamed train up to the top, which took 45 min one way. There was a hotel and coffee shops up the top. The scenery was spectacular, speechless, must see with your own eyes. Glad we did it.

We took a bus out to Strobl from Salzburg and from Strobl took the ferry to St. Wolfgang. There is a ferry stop for this location and the ticket office is across the way. Lovely warm day, great views, were thinking about hiking down but decided the ride down was better for our knees. To return to Salzburg, we took... More

Well worth visiting, not cheap 71euros for a family but the views are magnificent as you can see a 360degree around the area. Make sure you go up on a clear day. There are 2 restaurants which we didn't use. We walked back down and ate at halfway pub - nice strudel. The walk down is a lot longer than... More

Ventured on Schafberg on a cloudy morning, lovely sedate journey to our destination. Enjoyed a coffee and watched the clouds play tricks with space and distance, were rewarded with a clear view of the valley before our return, I think it's fair to say we enjoyed this trip thoroughly.

We wanted to see the field where the filming took place for TSOM, with Julie Andrews. This is half way up the hill however the view from the summit are extraordinary! Do watch the timetables as sometimes just 1 train per hour but the Saturday we went was busy and they simply laid on extra trains every 20 minutes. Journey... More

It was around 36 euros per person. One way ride is about 20 minutes. I went in the end of August and it was so HOTTT absolutely no air flow as the train moves really slow. It can also get crowded. I thought the train itself would be more interesting but it really isn't. It is all about the arrival... More
