We were fortunate in having decent weather - a little bit cloudy but not enough to hide the scenery. We did some light hiking around the top of the mountain. The main attraction at the top is the restaurant with a few basics, outdoor seating, and tremendous views. Lots of people had their dogs with them, which was cute. My... More

I guess this must be a lovely thing on a clear summer day but not in November/December and owners should be ashamed of charing ppl so much money knowing there wont be anything to see from the top. The ride I went to didn't even go to the top!!!! Went half way up, stood there for 10 mins in a... More

we did the combined ferry from St Gilgen and the Shafbergbahn. Not cheap but a lovely day out. The views from the peak are breathtaking. I imagine it is breezy at the summit pretty much every day, but particularly so the day we visited, so taking something warm in October is sensible. Expect to be crammed in for the ride... More

This is a great way to get to the top of the Schafberg where the 360 degree views are amazing. There are also places to eat once you are up there. Well worth the trip.

Actually we did the tour without using the cog railway. We started form Eisenauer Alm Buchberghütte. The tour was ok, it took about 2 hours for us to reach the top, but with children it would have been at least three hours, because climbing more than 600 m is not an easy thing with kids. However, during our way back... More

Magnificent views of many lakes and mountain tops. The train itself climbs slowly to the top.you can get down at a lower level and hike down though the thick forest .

We hadn't booked in advance so when we arrived there were no places left in the train we had planned to ascend Schafberg, so we duly booked our tickets on the next available train and waited for around 40 minutes. A leisurely 35 minute ascent later and we were rewarded with stunning 360' views across the whole area. We grabbed... More

The journey on the cog railway is a must when visiting St Wolfgang. It's not cheap but there are great 360 degree views when at the top. If you're lucky you might even get the steam engine on one, or both, of your journeys

The Cog railway is a must when in St Wolfgang, a bit expensive, but boy what spectacular views when you get to the top. Well worth paying for, you'll have to go a long way to see anything more spectacular. If you are in St Wolfgang you already know how beautiful the lake is, imaging being able to see at... More

Scenic train ride to the top of the mountain above St. Wolfgang on a purpose built cog wheel train to tackle the mountain slope. Trains running regularly, we joined the short cue bought our tickets for the next available train which was about an hours wait. Coffee shop across the road soon filled the wait. Train carriages are filled to... More
