On a lovely sunny day we thought we would give this a try. Ticketing qnd queung all well organised. The carriages are quaint but feel there are too many people crammed into carriages especially when it was 28*. Nice journey up and very scenic in parts. The view from the top is amazing and worth the 35 minute journey to... More

It it well worth the ride because the views from the top of the mountain are spectacular. They also have two restaurants at the top.

Coming from St Gilgen we were able to get a combined ticket for the lake ferry and the cog railway. The railway ticket however was for some time after arrival at the station - however we were able to exchange it for the next departure. The train was full and we got rear facing seats and this gives better views... More

This was a lovely way to travel to the summit. It was a clear day and you could see for miles. We only had a slight delay as all dogs in Austria have to wear a muzzle when in a public place! The dog in our carriage had to get off. You can do a short walk around the to... More

Not a great deal to do once up there unless you want to start hiking down but lovely to just take things in and maybe have something to eat and a couple of drinks at one of the restaurants. The steep trip makes you wonder how anyone thought building a railway up their was possible. A lovely few hours. We... More

We were recommended to visit by my parents and we were not disappointed. The train itself it interesting and the trip up takes about 40 minutes - the views are absolutely incredible all the way up. We had two younger kids and they loved it as well. It's not cheap but worth every euro. Once at the top ENSURE you... More

This is not a cheap trip so make sure it is clear at the top of the mountain before you pay for your ticket. Ideally, a clear blue sky day is the only day to go. We, unfortunately experienced a great deal of cloud when we got to the top - we could hardly see a hand in front of... More

We got a ticket that included the very nice boat trip on Wolfgangsee to the boat station Schafberg, just 50 m from the cowheel train that was very full of people. The train that is starting at 550 m and at the top it is1740 m high. But the trip takes 35 minutes (both ways) , and your view is... More

Check the webcam on the ground by the ticket office before you go so you don't waste a lot of money going up and being faced with cloud! Exciting/scary trip up the mountain on the train (about 40 minutes) breathtaking views and lots of photo opportunities. Stunning views from the summit. Book your return train time when you arrive, unless... More

You may have to queue for your ticket, but boy is this one worth queuing for particularly if the weather is clear, the ride up the mountain to the top station is worth the rather steep ticket price alone. The views from the summit are absolutely wonderful, with 5 of the lakes being visable, along with breath taking view of... More
