The journey on the Schafberg is magnificent, and relatively crowded. Also the 2 restaurants up there will charge you for the pleasure of serving you food and drinks - a lot. In order to make all this a little more special aka off the beaten paths, here are some recommendations: take an early train, as most tourists in big groups... More

At first I thought this was a too expensive for a short trip on an old railway but it was tremendous. First, the trains are fascinating. Some are the originals, some newer (1995) steam engines, and some diesels. They have several in work at the same time so its a proper treat for any enthusiasts. The carriages are comfortable. They... Yes it is pricey, it cost me €100 for three return tickets, but the views all the way up and down are spectacular, and from the top you can see for miles, including snow still hanging to even larger mountains in the distance. Going up was the highlight as it was not crowded and we had a carriage to our... More

This is an experience that anyone visiting St. Wolfgang should take. The train ride itself is worth doing no matter the weather. A word of warning---it can be clear as a bell in St. Wolfgang and yet totally cloud covered at the top (this was our experience). Even so, the trip is definitely worth doing. The views as we ascended... More

The railway is one of the most thrilling experiences you can have in this area. It features in the Sound of Music and on Sundays Do Ray Mi trains run. You can see up to 14 lakes from the top. Wonderful. Get there early and be prepared to wait as this is always a popular attraction. Choose a clear day... More

Views spectacular from bottom to top of mountain. Hotel at top offers snacks, food and accommodation. A bit on the expensive side, but worth the visit. Attraction not be missed.
