Little Book Store
Jun 2021
This little bookstore is located across from the Spam Museum. The lady behind the counter was very friendly, pointing out a bunch of candies that are locally made. A bunch of books on Minnesota were available. Good for a quick visit.

Small book store, not a candy store
Aug 2020 • Couples
We stopped in to Sweet Reads after visiting the Spam museum across the street.

They have a mix of new and used books, and a small selection of candy. Lots of interesting stuff.

Not really a candy store
Jun 2019 • Family
My daughter loves candy and someone recommended Sweet Reads. The person who greeted us was super friendly and they seemed to have a nice selection of books but it wasn't a candy store. All we saw was a few candy items next to the register.

Do NOT miss this place!

After stopping at the Spam museum, I happened to notice there was a bookstore across the street, and even though other people in our group weren't immediately keen on going in, I insisted we at least give it a quick look.

Are we glad we did!

If you walk in thinking you're going to find a selection like what Borders used to have, you're going to be disappointed. But, if you go in just to see what kind of treasures will jump out at you that you forgot you ever wanted to own or read, then Sweet Reads is the perfect store for you. The woman who was behind the counter - who I'm guessing was the owner - was extremely friendly and helpful, describing everything we could find and how to determine the prices. She also pointed out the Berenstain Bears museum at the back of the store, which brought my fiancee and myself back to our childhoods with some of the items in the collection.

The biggest selling point for Sweet Reads is that, when you buy a book from them, they don't simply put it in a plastic bag and hand it to you. No, the two books we purchased were individually wrapped in brown paper, sealed, and tied up with ribbon. It was like we were being handed gifts; these are the simple, unexpected touches which make a person want to continue to go back to a business.

I don't know the next time we will be in the Minneapolis area, but I can guarantee that as long as Sweet Reads is open, it will be on our "must stop there" list of things to do!

Great book store with lots of fun nooks and cranny's Amazing children's section and Minnesota authors. Steve was able to have his Lanesboro book added to the stock there. Check this sweet spot out !

Very interesting store. Such a variety of things for young and old. Lots of books to buy, fun reading area for kids. Old collection of nick nacks and toys. A variety in candy for young and old. I think you should just stop by and check it out 👍

Wonderful store

Sweet Reads is possibly the best independent book store I've seen. There is an imaginative, creative decor throughout the store with a fun play area for kids to enjoy. They also sell homemade candies and treats. It. is a great place to find books and treats in a friendly and cheerful environment.

Fun find!
Jul 2018
We stumbled upon this shop and are so glad we did! Wonderful, unique selection of new & used books, plus hard-to-find/vintage style treats. The owner was so neat to chat with, like catching up with an old friend. Found some great deals on a few books, tried a few new Minnesota-made candies. Totally glad we stopped in!
