Big Ole has been the iconic "unofficial" mascot of Alexandria, MN for some time. He just had a "makeover" and is looking good! Big Ole is an attraction located across the street from the Chamber of Commerce offices and the Runestone Museum. He is located on the Central Lakes Trail. It is a perfect spot for that "Kodak moment"!

Landmark, yes. Unique, yes. "Don't make a special trip" just to see this. The lakes are the attraction here.

Big Ole Viking Statue is getting a make over. It is time for him to get cleaned up. The tour we took and see to the Viking was all very interesting.

Not able to take pictures with the big guy because of the construction fencing but still fun to see, especially since I'm a fan of finding big things on my travels :) Worth the short drive through town to see him.

Big Statue. Moved off the main road several years back. Worth stopping at if you are in the area and have time but I myself would not make a trip just to see it.

My children enjoyed having their pictures taken with Ole. It is in the parking lot for the Central Lakes trail and the Runestone Museum.

You can't miss this statue right by the park in Alexandria. Interesting read on how Alexandria got the statue. Takes about 5 minutes to see it

Big Ole is currently getting a facelift - when we were there 7/7/16, he had fencing around him, was missing his shield, sword and was in the middle of being repainted. If you are thinking this will be a quick stop off the interstate to see one of MN oversized attractions, be prepared to drive through most of Alexandria to... More

Under renovation in mid-June. Don't go out of your way to stop here as Erik looks nothing like his picture above.

Big Ole is one of a wide selection of large statues in west central MN. From Paul Bunyan and Babe, to a giant walleye, to an otter. Ole stands in his eponymous park across from a museum of frontier memorabilia and near a Maritime Museum. The Central Lakes bike trail runs along one side. Weekly farmers market during the season.
