We were able to stop at the overlook several times at different times of the day with different weather conditions. All of our stops had beautiful views of Lake Michigan. This is a must see!!

We stopped here on the way to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Because Pierce Stocking Drive and some other spots in the SBD area are closed (as of summer 2020), I would have to say that this is the best view of Lake Michigan at the moment. Parking is free, and we enjoyed a picnic here on one of the benches.

I drove up M-22 past Arcadia to get to the lookout, but on the way back found Joyfield Road, Rte 602, a little north of the lookout, goes out to US-31. Next time I will take that instead of M-22. M-22 is scenic, but sometimes I just want to get to the lookout.

The overlook is amazing. If all you do is get out of your car and walk at the base of the stairs you’ll see the beauty of Lake Michigan for miles up and down the coast. The stairs to the top lookout are well maintained and roomy enough for passers by going in both directions. There are several resting points, too, so even the faint of heart can enjoy this with a little effort. At every landing as you ascend/descend, a view worthy of photographing is available. At the very top there are bench seats and plenty of room to plop down for a rest or for reflection on the pristine sand dunes that go on for miles. We probably spent a good half-hour there...but you can also see it in 5 minutes if you wish to. It’s worth the time!

This is a scenic outlook turnout on M--22, just north of Arcadia. If you're coming from Frankfort, it's about 10 miles and 15 minutes south. Good views from the platform right at the parking lot. But there's a staircase that will take you up higher. Quite windy on the October day we were there. Pretty good sized waves coming in.
