About

For B/30 you get to see 5 rooms of paintings, religious objects and relics. Clerical garb, crowns, etc. A tour of the cathedral and of the separate Virgin of Guadalupe chapel and the cript. With or without a guide. Really interesting. Open 9am to 12 and then 2pm until 4:30

Should you wish to discover the treasures of the cathedral : Bibles, paintings and all the silver artworks ( silver from Potosi mines ) it is a must. Personally I was lucky enough to be accompanied by a student who worked there and who wished to explain and practice languages as well.

We arrived 20 min before they closed and instead to let us finish (like in many museums) they told us we had to leave because they were closing. Anyway the cathedral is nothing spectacular inside and is not possible to go in the tower.

Currently the museum is closed and there doesn't seem to be any indication of when it will reopen after the refurbishment. A great shame as this is rated as the top museum in Sucre by most guides.

The door was open, with nothing posted outside except their open hours. So, I wandered in. The lady who was sitting at a desk near the entrance informed me that the museum is closed- some kind of reorganizing going on- and when I asked when it would reopen, she said she didn't know. I had to press to get an explanation, and am kind of surprised that there isn't any signage outside to mark it as closed.
I can't really give this place a fair rating, since I didn't actually get to see the exhibits. This is more a heads up to fellow tourists.

Pity. I was in Sucre on a monday morning and many things are closed. I decided to try this museum to go and see the Cathedral.
But the lady at the entrance was so unfriendly and had no change so I decided to leave.
I am sure the Cathedral would be worth a visit, but I ended up at the public cemetary which I could recommend.

Worth only for the incredibly rich Virgen de Guadalupe painting encrusted with all kinds of precious and semiprecious stones. The rest of the items are of less artistic merit and certainly of dubious taste...

What a jewel...literally. Vestments and objects of worship are beyond belief. Lovely religious art as well.

Again I was just lucky to turn up at the right time. There was only me and a Bolivian couple that enjoyed this guided tour and lucky for me the Bolivian couple were able to translate into English. The cathedral is fantastic but even more fantastic is the array of art works throughout, including of course the bejewelled virgin. Some of the art work, as I noted through a lot of the churches, is in need of restoration but considering its age I'm not surprised
