- nancy h39 contributionsSo interesting and beautifulThis was a wonderful museum that told the history of Bolivia government since their independence from Spain. We had an English speaking tour guide who did a wonderful job educating us. There are also a few women highlighted for their leadership and service.Visited February 2023Written February 26, 2023
- ped_anipReykjavik, Iceland34 contributionsGreat tour by MariaThis is probably the most historical building in Bolivia. Home of the declaration of the independence, home of the first congress and extremely cheap entrance fee. Maria was our guide and she was a great host: excellent information and great communication skills. Take the free guided tour to better understand this small jewel in the city of Sucre. The tour takes about 45min, extremely well paced, it covers the most important rooms of the museum and chronologically explains the history of Bolivia.Visited February 2023Written February 26, 2023
- brandasaCenterville, Ohio1,364 contributionsBest stop in SucreThis was such an interesting place to visit and learn about the history of Bolivia. We turned up just before 3pm for an English tour. It started a few minutes after 3pm. There were more and more than joined after the tour started - so I'm not sure if there were more English tours later or they just joined in instead of waiting. It's definitely worth being able to understand the tour - it's pretty but the tour added a lot of depth to it. The most important stop to make in Sucre.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 11, 2023

Best to take the tour, it's free with entrance ticket. The main halls abound n history and a nclude the Declaration of Independence from Spain and many paintings of the famous Latin Americans that fought for freedom, especially Simon Bolivar. One room has a 1775 map of South America, and other memorabilia. Worth the $2.10 admission.

The guide really made Sucre and its history come alive. Piola,I am not sure of the spelling, was terrific. She really understood the history and the artifacts and furniture on display from the 17th century!!!! The tours are free and in English at 3:30pm.

On this spot, Simon Bolívar declared the independence of Bolivia. It is a well preserved place in the centre of Sucre. The effigies of all presidents of Bolivia are presented, with short descriptions of their ruling periods. This gives an interesting insight in the politics of Bolivia

The place has a lot valuable history and art, and the design of the house.
Guides speak English French Spanish.
You pay extra if you want to take pictures, very affordable.

I think it is probably the most important museum in Bolivia in terms of historical significance. Quite a treat for history buffs as the guides do bring up a sense of excitement on how the country’s story unfolded, but for those who don’t like looking at pieces of paper (replica of constitution etc) and portraits of unfamiliar Bolivian historical figures, it would be quite boring. I personally loved it and thought the English speaking guide was a delight. Thanks for sharing your nation’s story!

Part of the entry is a tour in english (french, quechuan or spanish). The passion of the people who work here is evident - such a complicated and proud history the Bolivians have. Great spot to get a true story of the Bolivian, Incan, Jesuit history. Definitely recommend

Must see museum if you want to learn about the history of Bolivia. Unfortunately they have a shortage of english speaking guides at this time so you may have to wait a few minutes to join an english speaking tour. There is no extra charge to take pictures so you are invited to look around and do that before your tour starts. Recommended.

We took the 3:00 English speaking tour. The tour lasted about an hour and was very good. The museum holds a lot of historically significant items and documents and the guide does a very good job of explaining the history of Bolivia.
You can tour the museum on your own. I know some of the signs are in English but I don’t think they all are. You’ll definitely learn a lot more with a tour however. Cost for admission and the tour was about $2.25 - a great value.
