Home of Bolivian Independence
Jan 2020
Best to take the tour, it's free with entrance ticket. The main halls abound n history and a nclude the Declaration of Independence from Spain and many paintings of the famous Latin Americans that fought for freedom, especially Simon Bolivar. One room has a 1775 map of South America, and other memorabilia. Worth the $2.10 admission.

Take a guide if you want to understand what you are looking at
Oct 2019 • Friends
The place is nice, but the explanations are scarce. You should take a guided tour if you want to get the most out of the place, otherwise you won't understand much of what you are looking at.

Historically significant
Oct 2019
I think it is probably the most important museum in Bolivia in terms of historical significance. Quite a treat for history buffs as the guides do bring up a sense of excitement on how the country’s story unfolded, but for those who don’t like looking at pieces of paper (replica of constitution etc) and portraits of unfamiliar Bolivian historical figures, it would be quite boring. I personally loved it and thought the English speaking guide was a delight. Thanks for sharing your nation’s story!

Well preserved historical place,
Aug 2019
On this spot, Simon Bolívar declared the independence of Bolivia. It is a well preserved place in the centre of Sucre. The effigies of all presidents of Bolivia are presented, with short descriptions of their ruling periods. This gives an interesting insight in the politics of Bolivia

Incredible place

Part of the entry is a tour in english (french, quechuan or spanish). The passion of the people who work here is evident - such a complicated and proud history the Bolivians have. Great spot to get a true story of the Bolivian, Incan, Jesuit history. Definitely recommend

Highlight of a visit to sucre

Must see museum if you want to learn about the history of Bolivia. Unfortunately they have a shortage of english speaking guides at this time so you may have to wait a few minutes to join an english speaking tour. There is no extra charge to take pictures so you are invited to look around and do that before your tour starts. Recommended.

Make Sure to Take a Tour
Mar 2019 • Couples
We took the 3:00 English speaking tour. The tour lasted about an hour and was very good. The museum holds a lot of historically significant items and documents and the guide does a very good job of explaining the history of Bolivia.

You can tour the museum on your own. I know some of the signs are in English but I don’t think they all are. You’ll definitely learn a lot more with a tour however. Cost for admission and the tour was about $2.25 - a great value.

Great Museum!
Jan 2019 • Friends
Great museum on the main plaza! This museum is full of amazing history. I wish we had waited for a tour in English, we would have gotten more out of the experience. But that said, even with out limited Spanish we fully enjoyed the museum exhibits. It’s a great place to learn more about the history of Bolivia. A must see when in Sucre.
