The giant Moai is in front of the Fonck Museum. It has a more officla title which is the Museo de ArqueologÃa e Historia Francisco Fonck. So who is Mr. Fonck? He was a Prussian anthropologist who was quite a collector. He lived between 1830 and 1912. The first thing you see from the outside is the giant Moai which you might recognize from Easter Island.
Inside, the Fonck has an excellent exhibit on the history of Chile that is infused with plenty of art by the indigenous people of South America including the Rapa Nui from Easter Island.
I didn't think this was going to be very interesting but I was wrong - the museum was fascinating and we learned a lot.

This Moai statue in front of the Fonck Museum in Viña Del Mar is an original one and gifted by the people of Rapa Nui(Easter Island). Certainly worth a photo stop when in Viña Del Mar.

There are only two REAL Moai outside of the Easter Islands--one that is in dispute that was stolen and is now on display in the British Museum in London and this Moai in Vina del Mar, Chile.
Don't miss an opportunity to see a REAL Moai!

Impressive 500 year old stone moai brought from Easter Island greets you at the door. Sadly I wish I could say more. The exhibits were interesting but mostly in Spanish and the gift shop was dismal. I think the town could do more with this place to garner more interest

Always wanted to visit Easter Island! Didn’t quite get there yet but was very thrilled to see a genuine Moai statue! I even have a replica of one in front of my house. Now I am going to plan a trip to visit Easter Island soon.

We took a tour of Vina del Mar prior to our trip to Easter Island and when we saw this Moai, we were so excited to see the rest in it's natural habitat lol. It was sort of out of place but still a nice quick photo op if you can't make it to Rapa Nui. :)

It was kinda neat to see this Moai on the mainland, but I really liked the ones on Easter Island better. Cool that it is there, but nothing to be wow by it.

Having seen them on Easter Island in the wind swept sides of bare hills this poor lonely and quite small Moai, claimed to be a real one looked totally out of place sitting in a street-side garden adjacent to a museum which charged Real 500 to enter

A very informative museum. Lots of information on the Rapa Nui culture. The chance to see a Moai at the entrance to the museum was a highlight.

An authentic Moai from Easter Island is outside the museum. I if you are interested in Easter Island the museum explains about the creation of the Moais and the people who created them.

Hello,
Sorry I have not been to Easter island. What I read about them was its a good 4-5 hours flight with decent pricing and since it was 4 of us, it would have been decent budget hit just to see one thing.
Hotels there though limited in number but were available when I looked into expedia and booking.
