The area

Neighborhood: Al Quoz
Al Quoz sits literally at the halfway point between old and new Dubai. At first sight it has little to recommend it: warehouses and factories dominate the area, with some residential areas on the outskirts. Heavy goods vehicles roar up and down the roads and laborers stop at small hole-in-the-wall cafes for a cheap lunch. But it is fast becoming a magnet for art lovers: Alserkal Avenue is a significant contemporary art hub, home to 25 galleries and arts spaces, with ambitious expansion plans. The galleries host exhibitions, talks, panel discussions, auctions, and community events. If you love art, pass by to visit the galleries, it’s a great opportunity to get a sense of art and community in the region and to sit alongside key influencers and artists as they go about their day.

ONE thing Dubai isn't short of is shopping opportunities, but this regular gathering of crafts people, arty types and more is a must for expats and tourists seeking something away from the mainstream malls.
Times Square Mall doesn't quite carry the same clout as Mall of The Emirates - just along Sheikh Zayed Road - but twice a month (2nd and 4th Friday of each month) the shopping centre bursts into life with dozens of stalls featuring goods, cloths, even jams and pickles that are handmade in the UAE. And the standard is usually way beyond your village fete.
ArtE draws some very talented vendors and artisans, some of whom do this for a living, I'm told, selling everything from kids cooking aprons, dog snacks and cigar box guitars, to jewelry, aromatherapy and unique paintings of the emirates.
It's a great place to escape the heat for a few hours or to dodge the masses in the likes of Dubai Mall, especially when you have relatives over. It's also arguably one of the better but lesser known places to buy souvenirs if you want to avoid stuffed camels and fridge magnets - although there are sometimes some great colorful camels on sale as well. It's not on the typical tourist trail but deserves to be.

The Arte Market is on every 2nd and 4th friday of the month (except August) at Time Square Centre on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It is a great place to buy locally made and hand made Arts and Crafts in Dubai.

This is indoors so is great all year round and is a great place to buy not so common souviners. Each stall sells unique handmade products ranging from clothes, cakes, magnets, cards, jewelery, hats, Dog treats and much more!

I seriously love the artists at this rotating fair.

Anything you could possibly want for a souvenir or yourself. I buy almost exclusively from the Arte Fairs for treasures to take home on visits.

I can't stop buying lovely local paintings and ink drawings. They are fantastic mementos of my time living in Dubai and I prefer to support Dubai artists rather than the chotskies that are sold as Dubai made, but really are just items with camels on them made in China.

Thank you for your wonderful review. Nothing much has changed.. we are now in 2018... and we are still going strong with exciting new vendors and amazing creations and designs. The ARTE brand has spread around town and you will now also find us in Mercato Mall in Jumeirah Dubai and WAFI in Oud Metha Dubai.

Don't miss the Howlin' Rooster Guitars and Such stand! Amazing guitars made from recycled cigar boxes and other original material. A beautiful gift that creates a unique sound. Not expensive. You can even build your own guitar with the start-up kit. See more on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Howlin-Rooster-guitars-and-such/694530613931529?fref=ts

I truly recommend passing by ARTE expositions :) Always great things to discover and to learn from the Artisans stories and processes.

This is a gem waiting to be discovered, and boy am I glad I did! The standard of work from these talented crafters is way beyond what you would expect to find in a market. It is more of the standard you would find in top galleries, only at affordable prices!. Only trouble is, with such an eclectic selection I was tempted to buy way more than I intended! Cant wait to visit again. Thats my Christmas presents sorted, and all under one "roof"!

Thank you for your kind review. We are only just now catching up with our responses. ARTE is still very much in the lime light of the UAE community. Our future events are listed on our calendar, please check out the website for the details.

There's an ARTE fair nearly every Friday, either in various locations in Dubai or in Ras Al Khaimah, and they are absolutely worth a visit. These fairs have what so much of Dubai is lacing: soul. Everything sold is handmade right here in the UAE, by people who are clearly passionate about what they create. Nothing is mass-produced, nothing is trying to be something it isn't; it's just fantastic quality products handmade with love. If you're looking for a unique gift, skip your typical tourist hotspots and the big malls, and find out where the next ARTE fair will be for something truly special.

This is the best arts and craft market we have ever visited....2 floors, over 200 stalls of multi cultural crafts due to Dubai's melting pot of ex- pats. Very impressed, as each stall is manned by the person who made the items. Will definitely visit again!

I stumbled upon ARTE about 5 years ago and have been a regular visitor since. I was able to buy a beautiful watercolour painting at a very reasonable price on that first visit and everytime I glance at the image of Dubai I smile.

The artisans who sell their wares at this sale believe with a passion in what they produce. Not your usual Dubai mass market wares, but a varied selection of handmade products, and what a range of items they make. I have bought everything from dog biscuits to jewellery. One lady (Toffee Princess) makes Scottish confectionery which is fabulous, another couple of ladies (Well Preserved) produce tremendous homemade preserves which are beautifully presented in jars with colourful labels that I just love, and recently they have been selling delicious bread produced by another artisan. I can never resist the jewellery made by House of Colour, there is always at least one item I can't resist and I can usually drop hints to my husband for other items I would like for Christmas gifts.....

I forget the names of other stall holders, but can certainly recommend a trip to Times Square if you are in Dubai - check with the Facebook page for ARTE for dates of sales. You won't regret it.

if you are looking for something original, made with love and passion, Arte markets are the place to be! Talk with the artisans and learn their passion, drive and how they create all these beautiful things from paintings till clothing and original gifts! Or how about some delicious cakes?!
In search for a original souvenir, a early birthday or Christmas present, at Arte you will find it for sure! I love the atmosphere of all the artisans together!
And the best thing of all: It is all made here in the UAE!
Come out and support them at Time Square Center, Arabian Center or Al Hamra mall (RAK), you are really in for a treat!
