A shambles of a golf club.
Aug 2021
Reading the one or two star recent reviews here, I'm so glad this club some people have exposed Meydan for the awful club it has become. I joined as a wildcard in the summer - and they offered a reasonably priced, flexible offer. That is where the experience peaked. Here's just 5 of the many reasons why you should never visit this club. Apologies for the length, but I wanted to be thorough.

1. The almost unbelievable inflexibility and extortionate policies that are totally unique to this golf club. Including a 75AED spectator fee' for your (non-golf playing & non- golf club owning) child or wife to accompany you on the course for a quick round - even for 1700 dirham a month wildcard members or presumably even higher-paying annual members.
This was then ‘justified’ by a member of staff telling me - the weight of the buggy increases with two people riding instead of one and ‘damages the course’. Ha! What’s next guys? weight scales on the tee box?

It’s also worth mentioning was in June at 2pm...and there was not another soul on the course. Now, the management will tell you that it’s the same for all local golf clubs. A) Even if true that doesn’t make it right or fair, and b)…it isn’t true. I have walked round EGC and Trump Par 3s many times with either my partner or little nephew (with them not playing) without any issue.
When I stated this, the manager replied “They are walking courses…” but when I asked if then I could walk round with my wife while I played and her ‘spectating’ for free… they also said no. So already a clear hole in a stupid argument.

2. Their cancellation policy. 48 hours or 'full green fee payable'…for everyone. Which means, for a wildcard or annual member booking a tee time....if they were to catch COVID and cancel they would have to pay for an entire round. A round that is FREE because of their membership status. It even says 'Green fees 0.0AED’ on your email confirmation when booking as a member.
Now I know Meydan will try and explain this saying: “oh but your cancellation means we lose a possible green fee from someone else”. But this isn’t true either. The only time I did try to cancel because my fellow wildcard member’s wife had a medical emergency, they tried to charge us both a full round despite the entire course being EMPTY for the whole day…(and I have the online tee time screenshots to prove it). So much for some care and humanity, eh?

So tell me, Meydan - as you seem to attempt to account for every criticism on here rather than ever admitting any fault - how on earth do you justify this for people who pay monthly membership fees? Doesn’t this run the risk of people – scared to lose money – turning up for their tee time with a contagious illness rather than losing money by cancelling after 48 hours? I guess getting more money is more important to you, eh? (Even when you already have a monthly membership fee of a player!).

3. As a wildcard member who is permitted to play 'unlimited golf' I once tried to play 18 holes at the height of summer on a completely clear course. At one point it got too hot and after I finished 9, I went to the clubhouse and asked - as no one else was on the course, please could I take a 20 minute break inside to cool off and head back out for my back 9 afterwards.
I stress I would not have asked this unless the course was completely deserted. I was told by the staff no, and I either I do the back 9 now or I wasn't allowed to do it later. Again...not one person was on the course then, or in the next few hours, so it would have made zero difference to anyone’s round.

4. The absurd streams of paper receipts they print off for every single player checking in for a tee time. One separate receipt to give to about three or four different members of staff before playing. What is the point of having a membership card with a scannable barcode if you are using about 2 trees worth of paper for every group teeing off!!! No other club uses this many receipts. Ever. But of course - in typical illogical virtue signalling style - they are now professing their sustainability by being 'plastic bottle free' ....yet completely ignoring this above issue.

5. They never EVER answer their phone. Sometimes you must call five or six times to get through. And while they will offer a token apology for this when they eventually answer, it is testament to this unprofessional, excuse-making club that their staff deflect from responsibility, saying they cannot always answer the phone because sometimes they don't have enough personnel in the shop to deal with it. I'm sorry, but that's simply not good enough. You make thousands of dirhams every day in green fees, hire more staff. I’ve also never seen more than 4 people in the pro shop…ever. Trying to justify to paying customers to why you can't offer a basic service such as answering the phone regularly is laughable.

I could go on about their shocking disorganisation on the tee times, or the marshalls who patrol the course like park rangers but don't actually succeed in making the pace of play any quicker, but I’ve gone on enough.

Predictably, the management will reply to this with their inflexible, impossibly rigid talk of our terms and conditions and ‘policies’. Guess what, guys? T&Cs that CLEARLY make no sense and serve only to discredit you as a club can be updated and changed. It happens all the time, crazy as that is for you to get your head round.
In fact, almost every single company has had make changes and updates to their policies in light of a worldwide pandemic ….except your club and some of its frankly asinine course rules.

I'll close by saying that this could be a great club. Special mention to the car park staff who are always friendly and serve you with a smile on their face. It's also well maintained by a solid, hard working green keeping crew who deserve a lot better than this unprofessional, inflexible and shocking disappointment of a management team.

Maydan Golf is well worth the visist
Mar 2021
I was invited up to Maydan Golf by Jim Wheat for a fun round of Golf and a personal tour of the Dollarsandart exhibition in the clubhouse at the Qube. The golf was great and I must admit I do like the course. I am quite a high handicapper but apart from the usual challenges, it's a lovely course to play, and will definitely be back. Jims Tour and discussion on his art was also a fantastic insight into art and how to view it. Some really interesting pieces and when you know the story, it makes them even more powerful. Afterward, we had a super meal and up in the Qube, which is also well worth a visit, even if you dont play golf.

A very enjoyable experience
Mar 2021 • Friends
Enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon and evening at Meydan. Golf course was in excellent condition and provides a fair challenge to all abilities, being floodlit means your not worried about finishing your round in daylight. Also great idea to have different pin locations for front and back 9 holes. We had a guided tour of the Dollarsandart exhibition by the artist Jim Wheat which was very enjoyable hearing all the back stories and anecdotes to his colourful work. Finished off with refreshments and fish n chips in the Qube, super tasty and good value.
If you are looking for a great venue for golf and f&b at very reasonable prices then you will not be disappointed at Meydan.

I played the Meydan for the first time last week and it was an absolute pleasure to play on such a beautiful and challenging 9 hole course. The course was in great condition, would like to visit again soon.

The staff are also extremely friendly and helpful right from the bagdrop to the oncourse staff. Special thank you to Kingsring at the bag drop who helped us with the golf bags and happily welcomed us.

The receptionist Alona was extremely courteous and friendly to us, which definitely bought a smile on my face.

Shout out to Richard at the range who assisted us with the range balls and took the extra effort to guide us around the range, which was very kind of him.

In addition to the fun we had on the golf course, the very proactive refreshments manager Suraj on the course was always there to look after our refreshments and snacking requirements.

All together, the experience was absolutely wonderful, the 9 hole golf course along with the friendly and helpful staff make Meydan a venue to absolutely visit.

A great place to feel pampered.

All the best to Meydan.

I have played 9 hole golf courses, but have to admit Meydan is one of the best 9 hole golf courses in the UAE. Being my first time experience at Meydan with a group of friends, we were happy with the service provided by the entire staff.

I have to admit during our golf round, we were looking for places to grab some lunch, thanks to the very friendly and energetic refreshments manger on the golf course Mr Sooraj Bhankar, who took great care of us on the course and strongly recommended us to visit the Qube Sports Bar.

It was a great recommendation, my friends and me had a wonderful time at the Qube sports bar, chilled out atmosphere with lovely food and drinks. Highly recommend visiting.

Thanks Sooraj for the fantastic suggestion and quality service on course.

Wish you and your team at Meydan all the best. Look forward to coming back again

Lose - lose situation
Feb 2021 • Couples
In a Monday afternoon my wife and I decided to go and have some fun at Meydan Golf Course.
Being in the middle of a Covid pandemic we quite understand that there were not many people playing at this time. Last year due to that Dubai airport had 70% less passengers to Dubai than the previous year.

Due to restrictions on air travel we brought to Dubai my complete golf bag wit my 14 clubs and my wife's putter, driver and 2 middle iron. We would play Canadian Scramble, were my wife would play mainly on the putting green. Based on that we decided to pay 2 green fees (total AED 530).

However the staff there were adamant that we should rent a golf bag with one putter for AED 75 extras. We tried to explain the situation, and that because we have an extra putter we didn't need another one (3 putters! ) According to them and as previous comments on this TripAdvisor the reason for having an extra putter is to keep pace off play. We already had 2 putters, we didn't need 3! So we said : OK , I will rent an empty golf bag and no putter. What would be the price? Answer : the same AED 75 , no discount at all, it is the company's policy and bla bla bla...

The result of this “clever” position from them: I played alone!

Final result:

Meydan Golf / Troon : LOST AED 285 from one extra player in this difficult times
Meydan Golf/ Troon: LOST one satisfied customer
I LOST the opportunity of have fun playing some golf with with my wife

Question: who won?

Regularly been playing at Meydan for the past year. The course and staff are extremely welcoming and friendly.

On the course, my refreshments and snacks have always been well attended by Suraj Bandokar who always wears a warm smile on his face and is very enthusiastic with his duty. He truly represents the culture of Meydan Golf Club.

All the best to him and the team at Meydan.
