Al Quoz sits literally at the halfway point between old and new Dubai. At first sight it has little to recommend it: warehouses and factories dominate the area, with some residential areas on the outskirts. Heavy goods vehicles roar up and down the roads and laborers stop at small hole-in-the-wall cafes for a cheap lunch. But it is fast becoming a magnet for art lovers: Alserkal Avenue is a significant contemporary art hub, home to 25 galleries and arts spaces, with ambitious expansion plans. I popped in here looking for stuff to use on hospitality projects in the USA. Most of the items are repro things imported from India etc. Thats fine, I get it, and there are some gems hidden away. The problem is the prices. I also import things from India to the USA and the prices here are literally 10x wholesale Indian prices. That’s a ridiculous mark up. They are open to negotiation but you’d have to get over 700% knocked off to get close to a fair deal.

I came here after visiting the textile souk based on all of the great reviews. I generally don’t enjoy having to haggle for a fair price or being bombarded by aggressive salesmen, so I thought this would be a good alternative.
I walked in with reasonable expectations: I understood that most of the items would be low quality trinket-type souvenirs. Also, I was not expecting rock-bottom wholesale type of prices... I just wanted fair prices on par with what you would pay at the souks.
I found the prices to be about double what you could get the items for at the textile Souk. However, my main gripe was the extremely creepy and off-putting man who followed me around the entire store. When I made it clear that I wanted to browse on my own, he silently followed me from about 10ft behind. Maybe he thought he was being discreet? I gave him no reason to think I would try to steal any of his mass produced junk so I have no idea what the purpose of this was.
As I was walking out empty handed, he pleaded for me to buy something and offered to negotiate on prices. So, if you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of having to buy something here, at least know that prices are not truly ‘fixed’, and that there is room for negotiation.

I recently visited the Antique Museum having read rave reviews in a guide book. What a disappointment!! It truly was a waste of money, and more importantly, a waste of time.
The name 'Antique Museum' conjures up images that could not be further from reality. Instead of a character filled, old building this place is a warehouse in the middle of an industrial estate. We should have smelled a rat when our taxi driver didn't know the premises, or the address. He proudly told us that he has been a taxi driver in Dubai and this was the first time ever that anyone asked him to drive there!!
Taxis in Dubai are cheap as chips so it was not an expensive ride, but it was still a good distance away from our hotel. Hidden in an industrial estate we had a few wrong turns to get there with the meter running all the time. Of course, none of this would have mattered if it had been a worthwhile journey......it was not.
A heap of junk is the best term to describe the contents of this place. There are, of course, some beautiful pieces, but it is a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees as everything is stuffed in in a random fashion.
Upon arrival we were greeted by our own personal 'guide' who insisted on leading us around. There is no such thing as browsing here, you are accompanied every single minute. Anything you look it is followed by the 'big sell'. It was a deeply uncomfortable experience. All the new stuff is complete tat that you can buy anywhere at a cheaper price. Then you are brought into the faux antique section where everything is covered in a layer of dust for the authentic olde worlde feeling. Beneath the cobwebs lie some nice things but you cannot relax to look at them as you are under such pressure to buy. If you walk away from something it is assumed it is because of the price. The idea that you just might not like/want it does not register at all.
Now to the prices, we had been in Dubai for a number of days before visiting this place. We had done our homework and knew our prices. There are no bargains here! For us, the cheapest prices are to be found in the Old Souk Bur Dubai. The Antique Museum creates the illusion of having the edge on selling in all of the UAE, don't be fooled- it's a sales pitch.
We left as quickly as we could which led to another problem.....how to get out?? There is no passing traffic so we had to walk to the main road and wait in the blistering heat for a taxi to pass. No doubt had we made a purchase they would have called a cab for us. This visit, as already stated, was a real waste of time. Don't go, it's not worth the effort.

We were looking to purchase some Arabian Coffee pots and maybe some other types of momentos and we were recommended to visit the Antique Museum by a couple of people. This is not a museum as you might know a museum! It is a massive storage facility with all manner of treasures, antiques and cheaper souvenirs. We spent almost 2 hours fossicking through the many areas of the warehouses with the guidance of Ashraf. At first I didn't want someone following me through the store but if he hadn't, we still would have been trying to find our way out! We found some beautiful pots and I also was able to find some very nice Emirate perfume. Ashraf packed our pots up so securely that nothing could happen to them as we were going to post them home. The Antique Museum will also pick you up and return you to your hotel. Our concierge arranged this for us and it was great as the museum is out in the industrial area of Dubai so would be hard to find by yourself. All in all we could not have asked for a better place to visit for our souvenirs.

This is neither antique nor a museum, so the name is a bit misleading. However, there are souvenirs from several continents, and many items that make great gifts for friends back home, whether you're a resident, a regular visitor, or a tourist. The prices are great, and your "tour guide" (the place is HUGE) is knowledgeable. They also have items for the home, and as long as you don't really mind that they aren't true "antiques," there are some pretty cool items. My favorite salesperson/tour guide is Hakeem - he knows the product, he has a great sense of humor, and he's very personable. Thank you, Hakeem!!!!

This place was recommended to me by the concierge at the hotel that I stayed. The name is actually a bit misleading since this is not a museum but a store for souvenirs and art in a warehouse style building. I was interested to purchase an Arabian Lamp that I saw during a previous visit to Dubai.
This establishment had plenty of options available and Basheer was very helpful and patient to review all the different options with me.
The building is located in an industrial estate and only the main offices are air conditioned. The products seem to be of very good quality. I am not certain if it is very good value in comparison to more touristic locations but the wide range is certainly a plus. I would also recommend negotiating over the price

I read about the review at TripAdvisor, and took a taxi there. It is in an industrial estate in the middle of nowhere.The building is not air-conditioned, so be prepared to sweat in there April - October.
It may have warranted inclusion in the tourist guides at some point in the distant past, but there is zip of interest there now, only annoying staff.
You are greeted by a member of staff with a bottle of water, and then he sticks to you like velcro for the entirety of your visit. It is basically a storage unit with shelves of modern Chinese manufactured tat and the very odd antique dropped at strategic junctions. I don't visit again

I do get annoyed at places like this.. I asked if the prices were fixed as most items had a price on them and the staff said "Yes but if you buy many you can get a little discount". And that is on prices that are about 2-3 times the price you should pay.
I feel they should put some more reasonable prices straight away instead of trying to rip people off who don't know the prices.
They even said that making cost of a turkish lamp was 150 AED when I bought it at the local souq for 75 the day after..
So yes, I did get annoyed for them lying to customers.
Other than that it was mostly touristic items for sale so nothing special really.
I feel they should put some more reasonable prices straight away instead of trying to rip people off who don't know the prices.

Fun place to go - all under one roof - hot - take a hand held fan - and I like the one recommendation of a flash light as it is very dark - and tight isles - BUT it is the only place I shopped and it is all in one roof -
Take a taxi there and they will call a taxi to come get you 30 minutes before you leave - we took a car and ended up paying for him to sit outside for 3 hours so that was the only bummer.
LOVED the framed 7 sands of Emirates my favorite souvenirs!!
