Top ways to experience Souk Al Bahar

The area

Neighborhood: Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.

During our visit we were able to visit the spice souk which had much better prices and the Souk Madinat Jumerah which had better prices, was still indoor and vendors were not pushy. Our least favorite by far was the Souk Al Bahar. The vendors would not negotiate here even though we were there when tourism was down due to the Coronavirus. The selection was not as great either. If you want the best deals and don’t mind haggling, go to the spice souk. If you want better deals, indoor atmosphere and less haggling, go to Souk Madinat Jumerah. This particular souk is just across the bridge from the Dubai Mall, so if you only had one day in Dubai and want to go to a Souk, this one would be fine, just don’t expect great prices!

Lovely quiet airconditioned mall.
I have to highly recommend Modern Antiques Co!
Lovely shop with great selection.
I bought two bottles of exquisite perfume at Modern Antiques Co in this mall.
After returning home, I discovered that the lady in the shop made a mistake and gave me one wrong bottle.
I contacted Mr. Roger -the owner via email and he generously offered to send me the correct one.
Luck had it that a friend of mine was in Dubai two weeks later and she picked up the correct bottle-no hassle and free of charge.
The perfume is exquisite and like nothing else and the service is AMAZING!
Highly recommended!

A civilized (but also much more expensive) version of a traditional souk. There are a lot of shops that sell all kinds of things, starting with clothes and ending with traditional sweets. A lot of restaurants with very nice terraces.
An important section is Timeout Market, a place where you can find international food and alcohol.
Very crowded in the evening.

This is a nice extension of Dubai Mall.

It includes a number of licensed and unlicensed restaurants and a few retail outlets, including Bateel and a few souvenir shops.

It is also home to Time Out Market which offers lots of great independent restaurants and licensed bars, together with views of Dubai Fountains.

Located next door to Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar is a small but well stocked mall.

It is the home to the excellent Time Out Market and a number of other licensed restaurants. There are also a number of mostly tourist focused shops and stalls.

Worth a visit.

Souk al Bahar is the poor cousin on the shores of Burj Lake. It is a small kitschy mall, which wants to seem like a traditional Arabian shopping oasis. It has stores selling antiques (probably phony), Persian rugs (probably made in China), traditional clothing (one of the stores advertises Arabic designed haute couture), and quite a few restaurants. The restaurants are the best part, as several are very good, and have a great view of the Dubai fountains. We ate at 2 of them.

I went for a walk inside the market building that is in front of the Dubai Mall.
Most of the shops are closed and there was not crowd inside.
The bustling area is the dining area, Time Out Food area. 70 different kitchens with excellent food. I ate in Japanese cuisine which was good.
Sitting inside or on the porch overlooking Burj Khalifa.

Next door to Dubai Mall, accessed over a small footbridge from the mall or via The Palace Hotel, this is a nice relaxed mall.

There are a number of tourist aimed shops and lots of F&B options, including plenty on the front of the water with incredible views of the Dubai Fountains and Burj Khalifa.

It is generally quieter and more peaceful than Dubai Mall and a pleasant experience.

Very pretty souk but not for me.

It depends what you are looking for but this had many higher priced outlets. No one seemed interested in the customer.

Exceptionally clean and plenty of toilets.

Lots of parking available.

Great views of Burj Kalifa
