I've been to many deserts, but I never get tired of this feeling.
Emptiness, calm, silence, eternity - that’s what the desert is...
The sunset in the Rub al-Khali desert, or as it is also called, in the Arabian desert, is inescapably beautiful and magical. Smooth outlines of dunes painted in the evening light, a fiery ball of the setting sun, a light breeze blowing through grains of sand...
And all this romance - after the roar of engines of heavy Land Cruisers climbing high dunes, the fun of sand boarding (be careful, you will definitely fall and your pockets will be full of sand), and then - a Bedouin village, a show and a hearty delicious dinner. A lot of completely diverse entertainment, and the impressions of one day are enough for a week of memories.

Located in the desert near Dubai, about an hour's drive from the city center. You need to take a four-wheel drive tour in the desert, with beautiful sunset views. There are also various activities such as camel riding, watching performances at the camp, Arabic tattoos, etc.

PROS
* A guided experience into the Arabian Desert
* Accomadating polite experienced expert SUV drivers
* Exciting and thrilling dune bashing- buckle the seat belt and hold on
* Breathtaking views
* Camel ride too
* Ponder and bask in the vastness, the emptyness, the quiet and serenity
* Meal service almost always included
* Sunrise or sunset photos
* Complementary photo taken with your phone by the driver (usually)
* Wide selection of tour companies and tour options with additional/extra/optional activities and a wide range of prices too

CONS
* The dune bashing is not for the faint-of-heart
* It is usually a start-to-finish six hour activity
* "Kids- don't try this at home;" otherwise known as only go on an organized tour- the desert in unrelenting and unforgiving.

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... as a for-sure activity for my first visit to Dubai and the UAE. It was fantastic, incredible and unforgettable. The dune bashing was thrilling. The scenery was fantastic- see my photos attached here.

To show you how much I liked and recommended this- two weeks after our return, our adult children were in Dubai and they were on this desert tour three hours after their arrival at DXB.

ADVICES
* Definitely do it- don't visit Dubai UAE without doing one of these from one of the companies
* As stated above, "kids- don't try this at home"

FULL DISCLOSURE
As much as I like it and recommend it to all first-time visitors, I won't be doing it again when I return in less than a year.

The biggest tourist trap ever! Toilets horrendous. Harassed by shop people to buy headwear for stupid money. Bird handlers everywhere trying to shove poor birds in your face for photos. Buggy rides supposedly half hour but most of time was stopping to see bird handlers and birds. Very expensive for a rubbishafternoon out. Desert covered in rubbish.

My desert experience in Dubai this time was in fact quite disappointing. Perhaps I picked a wrong tour that’s why…

The desert wasn't as expected — well, I assume there are numbers of deserts in Dubai and my experience was far different from what I saw on videos or in pictures. Where I went to was a bit over an hour away from downtown and it wasn't infinity as thought; it's rather small. I couldn't do sand boarding either since there were no significant gears to support, and the slopes were not high enough. It was quite dissatisfying.

The so-called camel ride was just a few minutes. It was just circling one small round - 1/2 size of a basketball court. I thought it would be in an infinity desert but it ended up with just like playing around the beach.

My conclusion is that check with your tour and make sure which desert area they’re taking you to in order to avoid disappointment.

First time in the desert and it was really amazing. The driving at the dunes, the camel riding, the quad-biking, the food and the dances were all just an amazing experience for me. Will definitely go back

We went out to the desert in large numbers and enjoyed singing to some sweet music with our church members!

Amazing how the time went so fast and the stars came out beautifully and the wind blowing from all corners.

And so beautiful to drive their during the day!
