The area
Neighborhood: Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.

Love the mall and always visit the fountain to catch the show when I’m in Dubai. The show lasts All of 5 minutes and is quite an interesting display of light and sound.
The mall has many restaurants to choose from and an amazing variety of stores - from
High- end to midrange. It’s massive so be prepared to walk. Parking can also be a challenge on weekends and valet is available at a cost (yes it’s quite steep), so I would recommend an Uber.
Something else I love about the mall is the aquarium

I can’t find the right words to tell you this mall is out of this world. It’s not only any shopaholic’s paradise but even for those who prefer to avoid shopping this mall is a masterpiece in architecture and display of goods.
From the entrance you know you are stepping into something greater. I’ve been to other malls in Asia (the Petronas shopping center in Malaysia for example) but the Dubai Mall surpassed all expectations.
All the well known brands around the world and anything you can think of are under one roof. High end names harmoniously share the same roof with low cost/affordable brands making this the place to be.
It’s true that Dubai does not really have local fashion or products but you can get some really good and beautifully packaged sweets to take home with you.
The aquarium is wonderful. You can see it from outside if you don’t want to visit but inside you can pay to get your photos taken while scuba diving. The mall also has an indoor zoo, ice skating ring and a variety of restaurants.
Prices are comparable with Europe although some perfumes and cosmetics were a lot more expensive.
I don’t know how many days you’ll need to see it all but we were there for 6 hours and I’m sure we didn’t see half of it.

The dubai mall is by far the biggest mall i have ever seen.
With 4 floors and tousands of shops you can get lost very quick.
It is so huge that they have an underwater zoo, giant aquarium, big ice skating area, multiple stores of the same brand and yes you can find there EVERY brand.
Please note that if you travel from the EU is is not aorth buying in AED since everythijg is more expensive by 200 euro (dior, LV, balenciaga, chanel etc...) and tax free is only aroun 4%!
The best shop for me is Balmain since they have all the time 70-90% discount. How they manage to do that i don't know but it is for real. You've got there plenty of restaurants, exchange places with very good rates (discuss with them!) And make shure you keep the paper with rates on, if you have to exchange again just show them the paper they will give you the same or slightly less then what is written on paper. The dubai mall is a place four couples, singles, friends, families... all are welcome.

So this is a must do for anyone visiting Dubai.

But it is not as great as people made it sound.

Right now, if you are visiting, you can buy high end things duty free with your passport. I realized after I left that I could have gotten a few things friends were looking for really cheap, because of no taxes.

For the most part I was not that impressed.

Also, part of this might be that I am an introvert.

The shops seem to have recently reopened, and the sales people are more aggressive than normal, and they are aggressive to begin with.

But I could not look at something without having someone run over and try to sell it to me or hold things for me.

Maybe that is a cultural thing, or a personality thing I have, because if someone is too in my space I would rather leave than buy.

For example I was in Sephoria. I was looking to see what they might have that I cannot get elsewhere. And the staff was following me and asked if they could hold things in a bag and follow me, so there were a few things I would have bought, I walked out.

Saved me thousands :-)

It is also hard to use their phone app. and we tried to use their delivery/ baggage holding service, and nothing we bought was covered in their services, grrrrr.

If you can take the Metro there, it is a great option. We actually were able to go back to the hotel a few times through the day, on the train.

We had wanted to see the Aquarium too, but because of the package issue, we ended up only seeing from the outside.

If you have the time see the fountain show and the Burj Khalifa too.

We skipped the Burj Khalifa, as my kid is weird about tall buildings, and it was not worth the money to me

But the fountain ride was AMAZING

After waiting in the cue for almost half an hour at the official mall assigned taxi lane, we were directed (by the person of the mall) to some white cars that were waiting next to the taxis . He asked where we were going and told us that it was going to be 130 dirhams. It seems expensive but we lacked local knowledge and we were tired, had many bags and the the parking lot was a bit overwhelming. Once we were on the go the driver said that 130 was the base price, that it will go up because there was a lot of trafic. We told him we were going to get off and he turned aggressive and drove like crazy. He kept asking : which hotel you stay ??? And I keep answering we are not going to hotel , we are going to the adress I told you .
Eventually he arrived and we got off, paying the 130 dirhams.
Very weird for Dubai . And for the Dubai mall to allow this .
Fyi: same trip back with a taxi was 35 dírhams.

The Mall by definition would be a place for shopping and food court where people would go to either shop or do window shopping and enjoy the wide display of products by different brands and then have a meal at the food court.

But with Dubai, the concept has changed more to a Disneyland Shopping Mall, where you have shopping corridors and the same time you have excellent entertainment areas, such as the Acquarian and Underwater zoo. Ice Skating, etc. etc.

It can be a full-day out for weekenders either enjoying the display of latest products or spending time at one of the entertainment outlets

If you are looking for high end shops that‘s the place to visit. Of course you find also all usual brands with „normal“ prices. There are a lot of Restaurants close to the Water Front. There is also a aquarium and a Ice skating ring. As crazy as it sounds.
If you want to get cheaper prices or more sales you better go in another Mall. If you want to see the shows at the Waterfront try to go in a restaurant on a higher Floor.

The biggest mall we've been to. First of all there are a lot of parking spaces. The place is very accessible, very clean! There is nothing that is not in it. But to visit it is recommended to arrive early because you will need at least half a day to see everything. For example, there is a huge aquarium inside the mall. Skiing on ice. fountain. And full of more things.

The Dubai Mall is a must visit for anyone visiting Dubai for any amount of time. There are so many activities here that you may run out of time and energy before experiencing all of it. The shopping outlets are numerous and offer a wide variety of products at various price points. The food court is gigantic and has something for everyone to enjoy. And once you are done with shopping and dining you can always do the numerous side activities in the mall such as watching a movie or visiting the Dubai Fountain, Burj Khalifa or the Dubai Aquarium and underwater zoo, all of which are either situated within the mall or accessible via it. I would recommend to set aside a full day to visit this mall and all of its afffiliated activities. For example you can start the day by visiting the Aquarium and underwater zoo, go to the top of the Burj Khalifa around sunset for the best experience and watch the Dubai Fountain show at night, all the while shopping and dining as much as you want. The mall is easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi.

If you are looking for a driving school in Dubai never ever choose Emirates driving institute. Usually you need spend few days on the phone, because no one do not pick it up, you can’t even check the important information. If you are lucky, maybe, they will call you back, inshallah! The branch in Dubai mall give to you wrong information, confirm about your appointment and of the end you will realize that you don’t have any confirmation about it on the school. You just will west your time, money for a taxi and your nerves for a nothing. On the same time the supervisor on the main office in Al quoz 3, can’t handle any situation, can’t give any proper information and he just will tell to you waiting for a call back from your branch and you will never receive this call. I’m super disappointed with this school, never ever recommend to no one!
