Aali Qapu Palace is a six-story palace with its gorgeous patterned pillars and intricate stucco ceiling inside. It was built in the 16th century as the dwelling for the Safavid king, Shah Abbas I. It is worth to see it especially because its spectacular view on one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Unfortunately now not so much space is open. Ticket costs 2 mln rial, about 4 eur.

Ali Qapu palace is where you can be the king! the feeling of being king is given while you are on the porch and can look at the whole square like what king used to do it.

Ali Qapo is located on the west side of the Naqshe Jahan square and in front of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, which was in fact the residence of Shah Abbas Safavid. He invited high-ranking and high- powered guests to this mansion. During the Safavid period, Aali Qapo was known as the "Palace of the State House" and the "Government House of the Holy Role of the World".

My favourite building of the Islamic era in Iran. Originally a squat Timurid palace, Shah Abbas raised it by 3 floors to act as a lodging, grandstand, audience chamber and state gateway leading to the palace grounds to the west of the Maidan. The ground floor was used by the officers of the guard, the upper by the Shahs. Shah Abbas himself supervised the building of the Maidan complex from here. Sir T Herbert, who saw it in the late C17th says that originally it was painted red, blue, white and gold, and decorated with hunting scenes. Today, the decor is much subtler. It is a whimsical mixture of Iranian and European,and even Chinese-influenced styles. In contrast to the bright blues and yellows of the nearby royal mosques, the walls here are decorated in delicate greys, oranges, pinks and mauves, although much is sadly in very poor condition. There are many paintings, several in lascivious positions, several waving flagons of wine about. The piece-de- resistance is the fabled music room with its fret-saw like shapes of flagons and bottles (tong borie work). Sir T Chardin, who saw it in all its glory in the early C18th says that many of the tong borie niches in the music room were filled with glass, pottery, enamelled work and precious stones. The balcony (talar) was created as a viewing platform for the shah to watch the polo matches, and has a pool fed by hydraulics, but now disused. Altogether, a wonderful creation.

I love this palace, so beautiful, from the entrance all the painting and the colors are amaaazzinnnggg . The music room is a merveille of architecture . Live music was played int the corners and you could hear the music all around the palace . It is a jewel and a must see .

A wonderful collection of great architecture, history and just beautiful things. very photogenic surroundings with commanding views over all of Jahan Square, Imam Mosque and Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque. Extremely popular with tourists (both domestic and foreign) so expect it to be busy and watch out for some of the steps to the upper stories which can be quite steep.

It was less of a Shah’s palace and more of a fancy government building for hosting in its day, or at least the parts we could see. Lots of waiting rooms, a really cool music room at the top designed for acoustics. But the upper balcony has a view of the whole square that you can just close your eyes for a moment and imagine the king and some dignitaries sitting up there watching a polo match in the courtyard with the city under their gaze, it’s makes the whole square more impressive

Heureusement la chambre de music n est plus sous le renevation et tout le monde peut la visiter et s amuser de cette magnifique chambre.
As im a local guide in isfahan i was there yesterday and hopefully visiting all the part of palace is possible.you can visit the music chamber too and enjoy it.
