I love visiting Tripoli because it is more authentic than many places in Lebanon. The souk is bustling and energetic. I felt warm, safe, and welcome. I have visited alone and with a guide. The guide brought out things I had not seen before,

Tripoli has definitely the best souks in Lebanon. A lot of traditional products to buy with a really good prices! One of the main products which was produced and sold here in the past were soaps, very nice one made of olive, with amazing scents.

It is very crowed and it is better to take care your things but to us nothing happened. The people are different than the south but you can go around with little attention. The style of the market and of its people is a great experience

Khan AlKhayatin was rennovated in 2007 with the help of Spain.
Khan al-Khayateen is part of the Old Souks of Tripoli. It is mostly showcases of oriental, and traditional Lebanese clothing.

Old taylors' souk, restored a while ago with German taxpayers' money, starts to show signs of decay again.
Not much different from surrounding area, but still quite nice to walk through.

Some of the other reviews encouraged visitors to get lost and just wander aimlessly around the souq-area. I didn't know what they meant until I tried it. Only one thing to say: get lost! Crazy, funny, friendly, amazing things will happen around the next corner :)

Khans or souks are specialized shops handling one specialty and this is the souk of tailors. People would buy material and bring it to be done. A must to understand the bustling nature of this vibrant city.

There are also 4 bath houses ( Hammam souks) one of them (Hammam Al-Abed) is still a functioning Hammam and only men are allowed to enter to bathe.

More airy than other parts of the souk.
Also worth noting that a local Resturant is located at the end for break. Wish we knew having walked for hours in the heat with children.

And a visit to the souks wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Khan al-Khayateen. The “Tailors' Market” is an old caravansary specialized in textile products. It’s basically a high-rise Inn built around a narrow court for accommodating caravans and shoppers.
It is one of the few known souks with such an architecture. It was recently renovated in 2007 with the support of Spain, and the stone walls were plastered and whitewashed. Khan al-Khayateen is part of the Old Souks of Tripoli, which regroup Souk Al Attareen (Spice sellers market), Souk Al Sagha (Gold market), and Khan Al Saboun (Soap khan)...and there don’t miss a visit to the traditional handmade olive oil soap makers especially Mr. Sharkass.
