Cultural visit
Feb 2020 • Couples
It is one of not many mosques which is easy to visit by no Muslims. It is a beautiful building, makes great impression and is a great place to learn more about Muslim culture. As in any mosque, remember to remove your shoes before entering, there are shelves next to the door. Wear modest clothes covering knees, elbows, etc. Women need to cover hair as well. There was a gentleman who for a small fee was renting headscarves. I definitely recommend visiting the place, religion is important part of local culture.

Quick visit

A visit to the mosque is part of the cultural visit to Tripoli. Stop by, roam the place and read more about it.

Apr 2019
The Great Mosque is located in the Old City of Tripoli and is surrounded by the many interesting souks of Tripoli. You definitely need a GPS or local to guide you to this large mosque as the streets are very narrow and most are one way.
We did find the mosque, but unfortunately when we arrived we discovered that the mosque opens at 4:00 PM daily so we could not visit or see the famous interior.
Never less we walked around the entire perimeter of the mosque and in doing so discovered many other archeological sites within the area and discovered interesting souks such as the ‘Soap Souk’. This Soap Souk is located within an old Caravanserai very close to the Great Mosque.
So all-in-all we did not go inside the Great Mosque but the sights and sounds around were very interesting indeed.

Fine

A fine mosque, a bit massive and with a minaret reminiscent more of Maghreb than Syria to my taste, somehow. But it's just my impression.

Beautiful Ancient Mosque
Mar 2019 • Friends
Grand doors greet you when you first enter this mosque, the mosque has a peaceful presence and lots of history. We were lucky enough to be able to see most of the rooms as we came outside of Prayer times. The souks are nearby so worth Quick side trip to come and visit.

Nice architecture and court
Dec 2018 • Couples
Very nice architecture, and nice court with its gardens. It was not open on the day I was there, unfortunately.

Ancient mosque, with a beautiful court yard.
Jul 2018 • Family
Ancient mosque, was a Byzantine church, beautiful court yard, be warned doors are open only during prayer time, court yard has also a door from souk side. Sit peacefully and watch the faithful locals come pray and go back to their duties.

The Great Mosque
Feb 2018 • Family
This mosque was breathtaking as soon as you walked in. It was really big and spacious with old traditional architecture, big stone walls and very big doors.
The people in there were lovely and led us to the toilets and told us where to do ablution to pray.
A beautiful mosque and a blessing to visit.

A worthwhile visit but be on time
Nov 2017
We came here with our guide while exploring the nearby souks. This mosque is well worth a visit if you are in the area but there are a couple of differences from other mosques we have visited. This mosque closes the entry doors outside of prayer times, so you need to be aware of prayer times and you have a 10 minute widow to visit after prayer time unless you are a Muslim who is there to pray. Be sure to dress modestly, women may need a cloak (bring your own - they do not provide them) in addition to a head scarf to enter. Discreet photography was permitted indoors.
