Small village selling locally made whisky, handmade product such as silk and cotton shoals and fabrics as we walked the streets.

We came here by river boat on the way to the caves. Steep steps lead to the village. I didn't think the whisky was its main business as most shops sell other products. I found some nice silk scarves for a very decent price, an...More

I am a strong proponent of local tourism that benefits the poorer communities. I had two problems with this attraction: (1) There are lots of items for sale but very little of it is locally made. In fact, there are so many cheap and nasty...More

I was a stop on the boat ride to the caves. You get a quick overview of how rice whiskey is made and a sip if you want to try it. It is a little rough in the mouth. We were allowed about 20 minutes...More

What sets this village apart is that it sells whisky and rice wine that souvenir shops in Luang Prabang don't sell, and it's on your way to Pak - Ou Cave. Other than that, it's another big group of souvenir shops. Luang Prabang to this...More

The whisky village was more interesting for the weaving and scarves than for the whisky. Two families run the village store and take turns making and selling whiskey and weavings. We bought several beautiful table runners, but no whiskey.

Like most people we stopped here on the way past when going to the caves. There's a still where they distill spirit from fermented sticky rice. Is there nothing they don't do with sticky rice? You can sample the whisky and also the wine they...More

Visited this place as part of the boat ride from Houayxay to Louang Prabang. When we alighted from the boat, our guide gave us a great description of how the whisky was made. After that, we got to taste the whisky before buying. Besides selling...More

The distillery is great - back to the "moonshine" days! Lots of options, go with the old guy at the front of the village.
