We just came back from a 5 days (4 nights) tour with Off Road Laos Adventures. This turned out to be an experience which have left us with memories which will last us a life time and comes highly recommended to those who want something more out of their holiday than a hotel room, tourist crowded sights and a restaurant with a menu in 5 different languages on the other side of the road from the hotel.

Starting in Luang Prabang we rode 940km on 250CC offroad bikes all the way North to the border of China, then a bit West before turning South and back to Luang Prabang using a different route. We rode on paved roads, dirt roads and jungle tracks and spent nights sleeping in huts in small villages in the jungle and getting to know the local tribe people. Unreal for 2 guys spending most of the year in a concrete jungle punching keys on a keyboard.

We were 2 riders and 1 local guide which is included in the package. 1 of us hadn't been on a bike last 15yrs+, but it worked out fine as much of the 1st day we rode on paved roads so we could get back the "feel" of being on the bike. So you don't need to be a skilled rider to do this.

For myself having previously been on similar tours in Cambodia and Vietnam I was blown away. This trip had it all! It must be the best way to really experience Laos as you get so far away from tourists and locals who depends on tourists and our guide, Kai, was excellent in including us in conversations when sitting down with the locals/tribes.

Advise: Bring with you portable batteries to charge you phones, GoPro cams etc.

For Off Road Laos Adventures we have only good things to say. They place high importance on safety and you are provided with full gear (helmet, body armor, elbow pads, knee pads, chin pads and boots). Its also great to have to guide with you as he will chose the roads you take after your skills which he will observe while riding.

The bikes are all quite new and very well maintained. My bike had gone about 7K km only, my brother's about 11K.

Note that you can tailor the trip after what you want to get out of it. If you prefer to sleep in small jungle villages or rather stay in small towns where they have a guesthouse, or a combination of the 2. If you want to focus on riding offroad or spend time stopping at scenic locations, temples etc. Just let Charly and Jeremy handling the tours know what you want, they will deliver.

Though we were only 2 riders Off Road Laos Adventures can arrange for tours with up to 10 riders.

We are already planning our next trip in December when we will do a 7 days tour down south and to the Golden Triangle. Can't wait!!!!

After email Jeremy from off road laos adventure We just realize actually they do some charity in Luang Prabang to help kids to build school , give them education , food ...so We taking their package, hope can help a little for the kids. After confirm the trip,Jeremy ask me pay deposit for the trip, but we unwilling to pay, because We don't really trust the company that We never join before ,so we told Jeremy we pay him in cash when we arrive Luang Prabang and he said ok, for this we appreciated.but remember that once you confirm with them please show up , don't waste their time and work.
once we touch down LP and checked in hotel around 5pm , we walk to his shop and pay him in cash ,we do keep our promise once agin thx for Jeremy for waiting us. The nxt day morning we bring all of our belonging ald walk to Jeremy shop, we carry a small backpack that full of our clothes ,water bag, chocolate bar....and the journey start.
Our guide -kai is a very fun ,strong ,responful. He lead us(with the bicycle,we start with biking first ) to the pier to cross over Mekong river with the bike . After that we cycling to the village ,off road and lunch at the small village.i tell you what, this kai really can cook! He make us a noodle, papaya salad, and beef soup for lunch,it's so yummy !
Afte lunch we continue our journey with hiking ,it's really tough for this section, because after biking our leg is abit tired ,but we have no choice , just keep our mind positive and walk slowly, end up we make it ! We stay at the house of villager,it's a super super super unique experience for us,they is no water, electric supply,no light ,no pillow but we enjoy it !we all walk 5mins for just shower, we sit infront of the house and look at the kids having fun, we look at kai for preparing us dinner ....we feel good , because we will never have this kind of free time to enjoy what we have , although it's Abit boring sometime (my be nothing to do for other than just sit ) but we appreciate .
At the night ,kai make us a small camp fire and bring us some local make whisky ,3 of us sit on the small wood maked chair ,drink whisky, chit chat under the sky that full of star. That night is one of the nice experience in my life that will never forget . Thanks again to kai
The next day morning kai cooked us breakfast and coffee, after that we walk to the Mekong river and ride a boat back to Jeremy shop, the whole journey is comes into end.
If you look for bike and hike with different bike and hike trip ,this is the company that you looking for . Unnormal biki and hike route ,unusual and unique experience .

Just returned from a 5 day dirt bike tour of Northern Laos and enjoyed it so much that I had to give these guys a great review.

I was part of a group of 6 guys of varying riding abilities and we all thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip. Charlie and Jeremy from Off Road Adventures were very well organised and made booking the trip very easy. You can tell these guys love what they do, they were genuinely excited to see us finally arrive in Luang Prabang and went out of their way to make our trip one to remember.

Kai, our tour guide for the 5 day trip took us through some of the most remote and amazing country trails in Northern Laos and we visited many villages that rarely see any tourists. Kai is a great tour guide, bike mechanic, chef and all round good guy.

The trail riding was reasonably easy and anyone with some motorbike riding experience shouldn't have any problems. There were a couple of small sections with some rutted trails, a couple of small river (creek) crossings and several muddy trail sections but nothing too difficult at all.

We took donations for the children in the remote villages including soccer balls, pens, pencils, writing books and lots of kids clothes that were donated from home.
Doing this again I wouldn't bring any clothes from home as the excess baggage costs were quite expensive and it would have been far better putting that money into the local economy and buying brand new clothes in Luang Prabang not to mentioned the difficulty carting 60kgs of clothes through the airports.
We bought the pens/pencils/soccer balls et el. all in the local markets which was much easier.

We chose this trip (2 days 1 night bike and hike) due to the high ratings of this company on here. However, the cost was about $100 more per person than other companies with similar itineraries. Therefore we were thinking we would be paying for a higher level/quality/service of a trip. No hotel pick up, no arrival drink at the uninspiring storefront - no problem, thinking money was going elsewhere. Bikes were decent, headed off across the river. The brochure says mountain biking on trails - actually you are biking on the road (a clay bumpy road that all vehicles take). You can leave your backpack on an old trailer, with a guy who takes it to the end of the route. At the halfway stop there was no water or food available and we couldn't access our own bag as the tractor was not around. At the end, they jammed the bikes onto the trailer and took off - was amazed the bikes were in such good condition considering this lack of care for the bikes.
We ate lunch at a local place - very dirty, dogs licking the plates and drinking the water the dishes were put in.
Then the guide (who was great) went to buy the food we'd be having for dinner at the Hmong Village. Then we started to wonder....wait a sec, we've paid $500 for this and we aren't even getting an authentic meal? What, we have to carry all of our own water for the next 24 hours (for drinking, for cooking, for cleaning), which was a lot of extra weight to carry ourselves. We called the shop to ask the manager for clarification what we were paying for. He couldn't really answer, but then kindly offered us a full refund, but we would have to return to town. Fine we said. We waited 3 hours for the tractor to return, and even then our guide had to take us a quarter of the way back by asking someone to help, as the tractor had not returned and the driver had no phone. When the tractor arrived, it still had the bikes on it and also the driver had 4 friends with him. They wanted us to bike back.
Finally when we got back to the shop, the manager then took back what he said and was no longer offering us a full refund. When we were upset by this, they wanted us to come back the next day to talk about it, that they didn't have any money, etc. Then when we pushed them to honor what they said on the phone, they said we could go to the police.
I am sure the whole trip would have been culturally interesting, but all in all we were in awe that the price could be so high with what was being offered. And if money went back into the villages and the people they work with, the restaurant and the driver were not benefitting at all.
The itinerary looks great, and similar to others, but in the details and the quality you expect for that price - best to go elsewhere. Even worse is the manager's lack of ethics by not honoring what he said on the phone.

Hello, Thanks for writing your opinion. I apologize to know that you didn’t like our adventure tour. Let me help you check what’s caused this problem. I am surprise to read on your tittle “you don’t get what you pay for” you can’t say that when you decide to stop a 2-day tour after only 2 hours. At that time, you realized that you have booked a real off the beaten track trip without reading the 9-pages program! As you said on the phone “I was expecting a bit of luxury” and “explain to me why we are here?” You have confounded to book a 5-star hotel that must offer luxury and book with a 5-star travel agency on TripAdvisor due to its high-quality services. 5 stars does not always mean luxury, our product is offering travels into an authentic Laos with a top-notch organization with sustainable value. Next time you booked a trip with a highly reliable agency as us, please read carefully the program they offer to you. You called us at 12.00am complaining about being "in a village in the middle of nowhere" and about the farmers “looking like s**t, they are poor people…” I had to explain that this was a real expedition with 2 days in the jungle. Also, the program clearly mentions “Keep space in your bag to carry your drinking water, as your guide can’t carry it for everybody”. Unread? On the phone you claimed us a full refund “this trip is not what I want”. So, I asked you if anything went wrong with the logistic or guide? You said "no". Thus, I asked you “If this trip is not what you want, after reading the program then why did you book it?” then … blank… no answer, just “I want a refund”. I understood that you didn’t read it. I told you that the adventure is only starting now, the rest of the trip is even more wild with tribes and farmers everywhere. At this time, you decided to come back and we agreed for a full refund just deducting the morning activities, even if clearly written in the program we don’t refund while on tour, then you said “ok” Once at the office, you changed your mind, your game plan was set and your attitude as well! You finally decided to be refunded even for the activities that you have already made. You became extremely aggressive, banging repetitively your feet on the floor, screaming at everyone in the room. You have really scared the lao team, threatened us to “be able to get angrier soon, believe me”. You were so mad that the lao team proposed to calm down and meet the next day at the tourism police to have an impartial third party. Let me remind you that you disrespect them, and didn’t want us to pay the 10 locals who had already worked “those people don’t have to be paid, or just give them USD40 to share between all of them”. You meant USD4 each?! As a professional and reliable agency, we refunded you what we were agreed before you changed your mind. We paid you back USD300. We also had to pay our partners for the activities that you didn’t want to do. And unlike many agencies in town, we pay well our guide USD90 for his exclusive services for this trip. Do not compare with other agency prices if you don’t even read the program. The trip price is USD125/day/person for 2 people. This is a fair price according to the fact that we respect our partners and thus pay them decently. You chose us, knowing the price. I have heard that in only 2 hours you scared every local people because of your disrespectful behavior. Acting, aggressive, superior and screaming is not a way to behave. Despite your madness and anger, we remained polite and respectful. Not losing one’s temper in any circumstance is the main principle of Lao philosophy. Staying a bit longer in Laos could have been useful for you in that way. Why did you generate all this mess? And not simply just say “ok, my mistake, I booked without reading the itinerary!” Were you worried about not being reimbursed by being nice to people? Check out every single review about this amazing Bike N Hike 2D1N… 5 stars for all! For sure, reading the program before the tour, has helped these happy customers.

I previously did a mountain bike trip with Charly's company and thought then how great it would be to do a motorbike trip with friends. This past week the 6 of us finally got to do it. Planning was superb with Jeremy, answering all our stupid questions, and we decided on a 6.5/10 difficulty tour of the villages in northern Laos. Bikes were good quality Honda all road 250's, our guide Kai was a great leader for the group. Not only does he know the country, the people, the tribes, but he also took very good care that all the donations we had bought and brought got distributed fairly. Playing football at the schools was probably one of the most fun things of the trip. We saw amazing landscapes, but also the development of Laos. We had all kinds of terrain, roads, mud, ruts, gravel etc so every day was different. Time flew by, before we knew it we were back in LPB, where the team recommended a great place for massage to loosen up the achy muscles. Thank you again guys, it was an amazing experience, made all the more special because of Laos' incredibly friendly and hospitable population. Highly recommended!

Hi Patrick, Thank you very much for this awesome review. It was a pleasure for the whole team to prepare your dream trip. And we were very pleasantly rewarded when the 6 of you came back with big smiles on your faces. Memories of sharing moment with local children will stay in your mind for years. And we are proud to provide this kind of souvenirs. Thanks again, and we hope to see you again Jérémy and the team ! Cf. This was one of best off road tours, I have experienced in many different Asian country's. Off Road Adventures were also by far the most professional company I have toured with. Charly Renaudin who runs the company, took great pride in making sure I had a great time. Unfortunately my friend Richard who was also book to travel, was unable due to recent leg operation. So just me and my local Laos guide, BIG (Yaii) who was great company, and a good rider showed me the spectacular mountain rides of Northern Laos. The only down side,
"all be it a small one", was the bike, could have had a bit more power, and less weight. But I can highly recommend them, Thank you Off Road Adventures. DR Hoskin

We booked a full day cycle tour to Kansai Falls before arriving in Luang Prabang. Their communication was great and very quick and booking was simple. The day of our ride we woke up to a heavy thunder storm and we thought there was no way we were going to be able to ride that day. Ming was on email with us before we were due to arrive for the tour and asked if we wanted to postpone to the next day as it looked like it was going to rain all day. It was nice of them to give us this option but we were flying out the next day so we agreed we would set off a little later in the hope the rain would ease up. Luck was very much on our side because as soon as my husband and I set off with Kai, our guide, the rain stopped and the sun eventually came out. We really enjoyed the ride. It was long – just over 30km each way and we rode up some long challenging hills but we were looking for some exercise and fresh air so we got what we were looking for. We rode through many villages and the river and rice fields were in view at times. We did feel a sense of achievement on the bikes as all the other tourists either took a moped or tuk tuk to the falls. It is the same road you would take if driving to the falls but you get much more time to enjoy the views.

We really enjoyed the time spent at the falls, we must have been there for at least 90 minutes if not 2 hours. Tai climbed to the top of the waterfall with my husband and they got some great photos. I enjoyed the views and then went swimming in the falls. Although the water was very cold at first it doesn’t take long to get used to it and it was exhilarating to sit under the heavy flow of water. We then went for lunch just outside the falls at the restaurants near the car park. Kai got us some BBQ pork and BBQ chicken with sticky rice and it was absolutely delicious (and very safe to eat as there were no consequences after!). We were then re-energised for the 30km back to LP where we reached before 5pm which was good considering we started after 10am.
Kai was an excellent guide. Very relaxed and friendly and was happy to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend Off Road Adventures for this cycling trip. We also spent some time talking to the owner about trekking trips to the north of Laos so we are now keen to return and do this next year.

After communications back and forth via email (Off Road was quick to respond and very helpful), we arranged for the ride around Luang Prabang. We went to the shop the day before to finalize the payment/plans and discussed with Off Road things that we were interested in seeing and doing.

We met our guide, Kai, on the day of our trip, and he was great. He knew about the entire area, a lot about the fruit trees we saw, a lot about life in and around Luang Prabang, and what was going on around us. He's from the area and treated us very well, taking the time to ask us what we wanted to do and giving us options.

The title of this review reflects that there are no super-easy rides, especially in the heat of Luang Prabang in June-July (we visited at the end of June). The ride starts in town, where you'll set off with cars, trucks, tuk-tuks, and motorbikes, which can be a bit harrowing. Once you're out of the town, you'll have some hills to climb. So, the better shape you're in and the more confident you are, the more you'll get to see. Kai would have been up for showing us more of the area, but we chose a relatively easy route that still took us about 20 miles. We stopped at a true local market and walked around. We got to see, among other things, some foods being sold that you don't find in the United States (gecko meat, for example). Kai brought us to a true Lao restaurant and ordered for us, taking into consideration that one of us was a vegetarian.

The only thing that was a mild disappointment was that our first stop was at a wat that was closed. I may be wrong, but I assume that each wat is closed the same day each week. If that's the case, we could have avoided the closed one at the start.

All in all, Kai and Off Road were great to work with and worked to give us what we wanted. If I ever get back to LP, I'd sign up for another trip with Off Road.

We were lucky to have found Off Road Adventures Tour to plan our holiday. Note worthy were our guide Phong and driver: Sai.

- Cleverly modified our itinerary after trekking cancelled.
My family gave up trekking due to heavy rain the night before that resulted in the slippery trail. I had a knee surgery 2 months before the trip and could not risk falling. At that time, I was disappointed and thought that the day was completely ruined. Phong arranged other activities to replace trekking - excellent contingency planning. We went to see a cock-fighting match, bull fighting and visited several villages, talked to villagers who told us about their lifestyle and what they made for a living. Hmong and Tailue homestays were unforgettable.

- Picnic at Kuang Si Waterfall
We did not expect the picnic at waterfall was so nice. Phong and Sai found an excellent spot overlooking the waterfall. We ate and chit-chat. Great detail in the table-setting. We felt like VIP.

- BBQ in the most primitive way - great jungle survival lesson conducted in funky way.
- Phong and Sai showed us that anything randomly picked on the roadside, at the river can be tools and cooking equipment. They bought fish and other ingredients, charcoal from the market and cooked up a feast. Bamboo, banana leave plucked from random places were tools and cooking equipment.

- Adequate supplies of cold water and wet tissue on the vehicle.
Very thoughtful to cater to our needs. We don’t have to buy water along the way.

Throughout the trip, Phong made effort in creating a unique experience for us. We felt like having a friend, not a guide, showing us his country and people. Beyond our expectation - our trip is not touristy and we get to experience "When in Laos, do as the Lao people do". Thanks for the authentic Laos experience.

Dear Pamela, As we use to think, the best review is the one our travelers really express themselves and put as top highlight what they liked after deciding to sign up with us, during the tour, how we can manage small hip cuts, weather issues,.. until they come back home with great memories. You took your time to check out few companies before to decide, and I am happy to say that we are not the cheapest one providing tours in Laos but it's not our target at all to be cheap, our target it to create unique private and exclusive time for your family in Laos and make your holidays a success. That's what we've done and all the team is so happy with that. Quality and satisfaction is our daily targets with everyone looking for a discovery tour in Laos. All the best and we keep in touch. Thanks Pamela, Charly and the team.

These guys really seemed to care about what your expectations were. They only do cycling and dirt bike tours. Their equipment is top quality and well maintained.

Kai was an excellent guide, and looked after us well.

We did the Kuang Si Waterfalls day trip. It is there and back on the same road. In High season you can do off-road going up (don't know how technically challenging), in off-season it's on the same road (which was not too busy) and as I am a road cyclist that suited me! If you're reasonably fit the hills are manageable. A couple of biggish hills that made the swim in the falls all the more rewarding. About 60ks.

Highly recommend them.
