We've been to hundreds of markets in Asia and seen a lot of interesting and amazing things, but the sheer percentage of unusual foods in the Luang Prabang Morning Market takes the cake! There's no market we've been to that we so frequently have to stop and ask, "What's that?!" Even for seasoned Asian travelers, there are dozens or hundreds of items in this market you won't recognize. Thankfully, most of the vendors are very patient in trying to communicate to wide-eyed visitors what the various items are. And, if you have a bit of adventureous spirit and a few thousand kip, you too can sample bee larvae grilled and smoked inside their honeycomb nests, dried Mekong river weed, grilled rat, dried buffalo hide, barbequed frog, or fried crickets. For the less adventureous, try some coconut pancakes, grilled sticky rice, or a simple bowl of noodles.

We liked walking through this market and watching locals shop. Everything is fresh. They even have live chickens and ducks. We found this market less crowded and more spread out than the markets we saw in Cambodia. It may be because Luang Prabang is a much smaller city then the places in Cambodia. We also found the goods and handicrafts to be of good quality. We really enjoyed our walk through.

We walked through the market after watching Alms Giving. Nice place to have some breakfast with a lot of options available. Some unusual things here which we had no idea what they were and a lot of locals. Nice to see how fresh their food is with all the fish and fruit/vegetables available.

This bustling and vibrant market is located right next to the Mekong River, in the alleyways off Sisavangvong Road. This morning market is where locals go for their daily groceries, fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry, fish, and flowers. We enjoyed exploring this market and seeing the people as they shopped. Everything is fresh. You'll definitely find something to buy from this market but act quickly—it closes at 10:30 AM. Enjoy yourself!

Located in front of my hotel, I visited the vendors here right after my breakfast. Most of them are selling local delicacies such as small pancakes, deep fried pork chops, sweets, items wrapped in banana leaves, spices, etc. They are all so cheap rnaging from 10 to 60 kips or abt. $.10 or $2.50. They also sell fish, meats, vegetables, fruits, some jewelries and clothings. It also has small restaurants where one can eat their delicious offerings. Also noted here are hotels and a small Buddhist temple. Highly recommended to visit.

Such a nice walk right outside Luang Prabang Residence. After breakfast, I had my morning walk exploring the morning market. So many interesting things to see such as fruits, vegetables, fish, sweets, handicrafts etc. I bought a sword here only to be confiscated at the train station. LOL!😂. Vendors were all friendly. A nice foreign guy let me taste one of his purchased coconut pancakes. It was good. You’ll also see snails, crabs and frogs for sale.
