I stayed in the Indigo House Hotel in the Sisavangvong Road. I had not time to buy food, so I just bought food from local who used this opportunity to earn money. I had to wait on the side before the monks came in groups of 6 or 7 monks. They usually came around 6am - 7am. I paid 20,000... More

This review should be allowed 2 ratings; in the local area of my guest house in Luang Prabang it would win a 4 star award, on the main tourist street it would rate as terrible. My guest house manager advised going to a local junction at 5.30 to watch this daily ritual which takes place in the area of all... More

We were lucky as we were staying in the Golden Lotus Place guesthouse, and Bill the manager prepared sticky rice for us, and accompanied us to the ceremony. He had mats for kneeling, and traditional scarves too, so we felt less like tourists and more part of the experience. He even took some photos for us! I was more comfortable... More

You are up at dawn to help serve/feed the monks for the Alms ceremony. Everyone should take part as it is a Luang Prabang heritage.

Get up early 5:45am and head to the Main Street. My wife was particularly struck with the extended giving culture whereby the devotees give to the monks who in turn give to the young poor children all in the same " ceremony".

You need to be there about 5.30 am but it is well worth the early start. Very interesting to watch. You can take photos but don't go too close.

A nice experience to see the monks and give them some rice etc. Wake up early and cover up, a nice way to start the day.

Highlight of Luang Prabang, arrive in early morning and you must wait quietly for the monks to walk by. I was there by 6:00 am and didn't miss much as the procession had just made its way to the side streets.

Alms giving started at 5.30 am.......down the same street as the night market is on.Find a good position across the road from the procession of monks. You must not use a flash when photographing this scene, or get up close to the monks, or give eye contact. It was lovely to watch the locals presenting alms to the monks and... More

You will have to rise very early to see the monks giving and taking alms. It was a very peaceful and tranquil experience that we are very glad we saw live.
