If any of your party are animal lovers then this working dairy is a great stop-off. We spent $9 each on a one hour tour that saw us feeding, bathing, grooming and milking water buffaloes who have to be the softest creatures given the size of their horns. We absolutely loved it.

Most of the other reviews cover the fun stuff. It was. But what needs to be emphasized is the cultural and ecological insight one can gain. We learned a lot about the basics of the Lao agricultural sector and how their farming and education programs are making a positive impact. You won’t be bored with that info if you don’t ask, but if you’re a curious traveler with a passion for cultural understanding this should not be missed.

WOW! This place is fun and unique. Amazing to hear how this organization has made such a positive impact in Laos by providing needed nutrition to children and a sustainable income for female farmers. I am inspired!!

Incredible project and a great example of responsible social enterprise. Inspiring founders who are so engaging and generous with their knowledge and time to show people around. Go for a tour and have a tasting cheese plate- an Amazing experience. DO NOT MISS the smoothest whey yoghurt smoothie in town.

We visited here after the waterfalls. It was a nice stop and we got a tour of the farm feeding the pigs, scratching the piglets tummies (like puppies), milk a buffalo and wet and brush one plus bottle feed young water buffalos, also have rabbits which im sure kids would love. I like what they are trying to achieve in educating local farmers. Quite expensive for Lao but worthy of a visit.

Spent the afternoon here yesterday with Rachel as our tour guide. Wow! Such a great tour, lots of information about the challenges and success of this operation that is producing wonderful products while helping out the surrounding community through employment, education, improved animal husbandry and improved nutrition. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour as well as the snacks at the end. Highly recommended!

Just lovely and great cause! Really enjoyed our time with the friendly animals. We got to brush and feed the buffalo’s, and play with pigs and bunnies. Very cute and the cakes and ice cream were excellent! We spent way longer than we anticipated, which is the ultimate test of how good a place is. Really really recommend!

Hats off to the folks who launched this venture, collaborating with local farmers to produce mozzarella and a variety of other cheeses in a country where dairy production is almost non-existent. The setting is bucolic and the food in the cafe is delightful. However, I could not help feeling that every possible opportunity is being monetised. Charging customers to visit and wash buffalo seems a bit mean, especially if they are already paying to eat in the cafe, and billing for extra bread on the menu is surely a cardinal sin. It’s all for a good cause but it doesn’t feel like real hospitality.

This farm is so inspirational and it was fascinating to hear about the aims of this project. We really appreciated Rachel taking so much time out to explain all that the farm is achieving and would like to achieve. It was an amazing experience to tickle the tummies of the pigs, feed the young buffalo from a bottle and brush the older buffalo. The buffalo ice cream we sampled was delicious. This is a must visit destination for anyone travelling to Luang Prabang.

We came here after visiting the nearby waterfalls and we’re so glad we did! There are two types of yours, and we selected Tour 1 which was 145,000kip. This included a tour from the lovely co-founder and we got to learn about the history of the farm and up to the present day what is being done. We also got to feed pigs, rabbits and buffalo, and even got to milk buffalo! Afterwards we thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo cheese board selection for $6 and then the ricotta cheesecake for $4. I highly recommend visiting here for a unique experience in Luang Prabang, particularly as your money is going to a good cause! The treatment of the animals appears excellent and ethical, and at no point did we ever feel like they are not being cared for properly - the owner loves each and every one of them!

We stumbled on ‘The Buffalo Farm’ when we were out exploring the country side with our taxi guide.

It was such an interesting and fascinating visit to learn about the Buffalos, their environment and the recent development of the Buffalos in the area which really surprised us. It was great to get up close to them too as we initially thought we would only be seeing the from afar. !

An added bonus was the pigs and the rabbits, which were also interesting as well as fun.

The farm offers a great environment to relax and to try the delights produced from the Buffalo’s milk. We tried really yummy cake as well as delicious ice cream (recommend coffee as well as the baileys).

We are absolutely delighted we dropped into the farm and given our limited time for the visit we thought the presentation of the farm information was spot on!

We visited the dairy farm and chose tour 2 (220.000kip). Tour 1 (120.000kip) includes feeding the pigs, rabbits and buffalos, as well as milking and washing the buffalos. You can pet them all as well. Tour 2 is the same, but with a few extra's: you can give milk to the calf's (buffalo) & also get to taste some cheesecake, an ice cream and a coffee (all with buffalo milk). Definitely recommend taking tour 2, as you want to try the product after the tour! Our guide was one of the co-owners & isn't native from Lao, she speaks English as a mother tongue, which is very nice to understand everything clearly (and without effort). Definitely recommend if you like animals, would like to learn more about the buffalo and it milks, or if you have kids. :)

Lovely project, they teach tourist and locals how to raise and care for farm animals. The animals are in good shape and well cared for and live under conditions which conventional farm animals in the “western” world could only dream of. They have a team of well educated expats, who are willing to explain everything. It’s more of an educational and social project then an actual farm and the tours are a very hands on experience- perfect for children and city folk who want to get in touch with livestock.

A group of us had a really interesting tour of this enterprise this afternoon. Whether you are a family with small children or adults there is so much to enjoy. You can stroke rabbits, pigs, milk the buffalo etc but also learn how this farm is not only employing Laos folk but also educating farmers to improve production and mother's to improve nutrition. So worthwhile not to be missed when in Luang prabang.

Dropped in for a tour of the only Buffalo Dairy and in fact just dairy in all of Laos. Rachel & Suzie have created a fantastic enterprise to support the local farmers and overall health and education of the nearby villagers. All topped off with some amazing cheese cake and ice cream. Congratulations on pulling through COVID and building momentum again - highly recommended - give yourself a good 2 hours to see everything.

This tour is close-up and comfortable with these calm and tame animals. Their friendly nature seeks out your company and is willing to eat out of your hand. The staff care for the buffalo and are eager to share the history of the farm. They also provide information and partnerships with the local farmers. This connection aids the community and is changing how buffalo are used in Laos.
Our young male guide (Tom I think) was full of passion and knowledge of the farm. He was enthusiastic and entertaining. One of the owners Sussie also gave us time to explain how she arrived in Luang Prabang. This farm has a restaurant with fine cheese, yoghurt and other lunch delights. Try their ice cream. Yum Tom is also teaching children to speak English which will help them gets tourist jobs. I highly recommend a visit to the buffalo farm.

This was one of our favorites while visiting Luang Prabang. Very clean grounds with mission to teach and support Lao farmers. Education for farmers and their children. We tried milking a water buffalo and enjoyed going into pens to feed the animals. At the end of out Tour #2, we were treated to cheesecake, ice cream and coffee or tea. In addition we bought a cheese plate to sample the cheeses made from water buffalo milk which we beautifully presented. Well worth the visit.
